   ‘Perfect Smile’ Contest Offers Free Dental Work To Student

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, in partner- ship with a local dentist, is sponsoring the “Perfect Smile Competition.” The winner of the competition will receive free dental work in time for the new school year.
The contest is open to children under the age of 18. The contest participants must submit a drawing showing their idea of a “perfect smile.” The winner of the contest will receive free dental work through Dr. Neal Stubbs, of Stubbs Orthodontics. The contestants must be under the age of 18.
The rules are as follows: All sections of the application need to be completed in full; Application must be typed or hand written legibly in ink; Child MUST have permanent
teeth to participate; Child must be a Hillsborough County resident; Parent(s) will need to display proof of financial need; A home visit will be required; and Parent(s) must provide trans- portation for the services.
All HCSO families are ex- cluded from the contest and ONLY one contest winner will be selected.

Applications will be accepted until July 20, 2018. Participants must also return the applica- tion, a photograph of the child’s teeth, and a color copy of the child’s draw- ing to the HCSO Commu- nity Outreach Division, to: communityevents @hcso.tampa.fl.us with the subject line “Perfect Smile.”
    Safe Baby Community Education Project Planned

On Saturday, July 14th, two organizations will host a “Safe Baby, Safe Sleep Com- munity Education Project.” The event will take place at the Children’s Board of Hil- lsborough County, 1002 E. Palm Avenue, beginning at 10 a.m.
The purpose of the mee- ting is to reduce the number of infant deaths by educa- ting young parents. The event is hosted by the Hil- lsborough County Children’s Board, Ms. Kelley Parris, Executive Director, in par- tnership with the Tampa Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Robert Irvin, Polemarch.

According to statistics, last year 13,000 African American babies died before reaching their first birthday in the United States. In Hil- lsborough County, 18 deaths were attributed to unsafe sleeping conditions.
A spokesman for The Tampa Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, said, “Our hope is to bring awareness to the overrepre- sentation of African Ameri- can infants dying due to unsafe sleep conditions.

“In commemoration of the chapter’s 90th anniver- sary, 90 families will be re- ceiving Pack-n-play cribs at no cost to the families and education from the Healthy Start Coalition on how to protect them from preventa- ble unsafe sleep deaths.
“This Safe Baby Safe Sleep Community Educa- tion Project is in partnership with the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County.”
Local parents attending the event will receive Pack n’ Play cribs and safe sleep education. The effort is to end the unsafe deaths of in- fants 100 percent. Partici- pants must pre-register and receive confirma- tion of registration for the event at www.chil- drensboard.org.
