Visit Tampa Bay Appoints Sherri Brown To Build
Minority Business
New role includes de- veloping new opportuni- ties for multi-cultural meetings, sponsors
Sherri Brown, a veteran member of Visit Tampa Bay’s convention sales team, will guide the company’s efforts to expand minority and multi- cultural business in the newly created post of Multi-Cultural Business Development Exec- utive.
Brown has spent eight years at Visit Tampa Bay, most recently as lead sales person for minority and reli- gious meetings and conven- tions. Her work helped bring the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine – also known as the Prince Hall Shriners – to Tampa Bay for its Imperial Session in 2014 and again in 2016, the Inter- national Indian Film Acad- emy awards in 2014, and the National Baptist Convention USA in 2016.
“Sherri’s history with Visit Tampa Bay and knowl- edge of minority communi- ties makes her ideal for the role of Multi-cultural Busi- ness Development Execu- tive,” said Santiago Corrada, president and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay, said in a press release. “Our hope is that this new role will not only generate more minority conventions, but also provide more diverse resources to

those groups when they are in our destination.”
In her new role, Brown will prospect new multicul- tural business, act as a liaison with visiting groups to ensure their experience is a positive one, and expand Visit Tampa Bay’s multicultural partner- ships and sponsorship oppor- tunities. She will work closely with the Convention Sales and Partnership teams and report directly to Corrada.
“Visit Tampa Bay is com- mitted to expanding its rela- tionship with multicultural organizations,” Corrada said. “The additional relation- ships with multicultural part- ners will allow groups to experience our diverse com- munity and have a more en- hanced visit. I look forward to working closely with Sherri in her new role.”
King Facts:
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and members of the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Committee) were not originally scheduled to visit Memphis, Tennessee in April 1968.
They were called to the city to support striking sanitation workers and responded to the call.
On April 3, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., deliv- ered his now famous and prophetic speech, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop.”
“The words, “I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the prom- ised land. And I’m happy tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”
