here are a lot of things
that go on in this world that I don't like. For instance, I'm not a proponent of same- sex marriages.
I also don't think it's cool for men to wear skin-tight britches. I hate the use of auto-tune in hip-hop music. And I'm not too fond of women having their back- sides artificially supersized to the point where it makes their bodies look cartoonish.
The thing is, though, my opinion really doesn't matter. And the people who enjoy, believe or find pleasure in the things that I find distasteful have a right to partake in what they feel improves their quality of life.
This is what constitutes a free society. But, unfortu- nately, it seems that many people have forgotten that concept.
I bring this up in reference to the State of Georgia proudly announcing last week the passage of one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country. The contro- versial legislation makes it il-
legal to terminate a preg- nancy after a heartbeat is de- tected inside the womb (exceptions are made in cases of rape or incest).
Any woman who has an abortion or doctor who per- forms one beyond that point, according to this new law, faces a penalty of up to life in prison. And, what's even more alarming about the im- plementation of this legality is that several other states, in- cluding Florida, are enter- taining the idea of creating their own version.
This is a prime example of how an individual's free- doms can be trampled upon because of the personal be- liefs of a few. Those who are in the positions to affect change tend to ignore the fact that everyone in this country is entitled to the pursuit of happiness as long as that pur- suit doesn't infringe on the ability of others to achieve the same goal.
This means that we all have the right to live our lives in whatever fashion that we deem suitable, whether that
translates to someone's desire to drink toilet water, howl at the moon or eat his or her own feces. And nowhere in the Constitution of the United States does it state that any one group's moral ideals trump those rights.
In order for a society to be truly based on individual freedoms there has to be re- spect for the way every per- son chooses to exist, regardless of our own per- sonal feelings about their be- havior. And telling a person what he or she can and can- not do with his or her own body shows a clear disregard of that principle.
This is why a woman's right to choose, an enter- tainer's right to make horrible music, a Klansman's right to assemble, a hunter's right to bear arms and an LGBT indi- vidual's right to express him or herself how they see fit all have to be protected.
If any one of these domi- nos is allowed to fall it could cause a chain reaction that ul- timately places all of our free- doms in jeopardy.
And, no matter where you stand politically or socially, living in a country where you can't do whatever brings you the most joy is a reality I don't think anyone wants to see manifested.

     The Art Of The Steal
magine losing nine billion dollars over ten years
and not paying one dime of it in taxes . . . better than winning $25,000 a week for the rest of your life, wouldn’t you say?
Indeed, our current Commander-in-Chief’s IRS is- sues and the mud-slinging scandal because of them re- mind us of certain sitcom Good Times episodes wherein the parents were about to discuss something serious and would always say to their youngest son Michael, “It’s time for you to go in the bedroom and do your homework.”
Well, Michael, when it comes to Trump’s taxes, “It’s that time again.” And once again, Michael innocently responds, ”Oh, I know all about that.”
Indeed, everybody knows all about that . . . except the American tax payers.
Most definitely, the millennial Michaels of Amer- ica’s “Good Times” know first-hand all about President Trump’s blatant disregard for our nation’s tax tradi- tions.
They have seen it as they watched their own parents’ labor late into the night trying to get taxes sent off be- fore deadline and often having money to repay. Yet, in the midst of their parents’ anguish, they’ve witnessed President Trump’s lawyers announce the reason why the President pays no taxes “is because he’s smart.”
No doubt, Trump’s attitude conjures up a dangerous dilemma, especially for the IRS: Should it, despite its sharp teeth, be taken seriously? The wrong answer could cause a civil catastrophe.
Meanwhile, the man who supposedly authored the book, “The Art of The Deal” continues to hide his tax- returns like Fort Knox, and the Michaels of America continue to lose faith in the Constitution.
    A Mother’s Day Poem
   mpowered Greet-
ings to all the mothers who unselfishly give of them- selves for their offspring. You are not forgotten and your acts of love do not go unno- ticed. This column is dedi- cated to all of you with a heartfelt thank you to the greatest mother, grandmother and great grandmother in the world, my mom, Lillie Nichols. I LOVE YOU!
A Mother’s Love By Tommy Sandlin
A Mother’s Love is best by far
Than other loves who claims your heart.
No matter what you may
do
A Mother’s Love will see
you through.
On each and every step
you take
A Mother’s Love will guide
your way.
Though you may stumble
and you may stall
A Mother’s Love will catch
your fall.
Trust in her wisdom in
every way
A Mother’s Love won’t let
you stray.
A Mother’s Love will never
fail
safe from harm.
Remember how when you
were young
A Mother’s Love the song
she sung.
Oh how the roles, they do
reverse
This is God’s will; it’s not a
curse.
For in the end, Mother you
will be
Not her for you but you for
she.
