Local Ski Club To Host Golf Tourney To Support YouthFest
BY JULIA JACKSON
Onyx Ski and Sports Club of Tampa Bay is a club member of the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS). The NBS, established in 1973, is one of the largest snow ski organizations in the United States. Its member clubs span across the country, from Miami, Florida to Los Angeles, California.
Snow skiing, snowboarding, and downhill rac- ing are just some of the activities members and guests enjoy throughout Colorado, Canada and the Northeast U. S. mountains.
Training and mentoring African American skiers to be selected as competitors in the Winter Olympics is the mission of NBS. This goal is at- tained by promoting winter sports in the African American community.
In March 2019, the NBS Eastern Region will host YouthFest, an event organized to give com-

munity youth the opportunity to see the world from the Appalachian Mountains of New Hamp- shire and learn the sports of snow skiing and snowboarding.
Club President, Darele Brown Campbell says, “Many of the youth participants have not traveled outside of the Tampa Bay area, or have not been on an airplane. This is a trip of a lifetime for them!”
Onyx Ski and Sports Club supports this event through proceeds gained from its Annual Charita- ble Golf Tournament, which will be held at His- toric Rogers Park Golf Course, 7910 N. 30th Street, Tampa (33610), on Saturday, October 20, 2018, with an 8 a. m. shotgun start. Men and women golfers are welcome.
