BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
As youngsters, children are introduced to the art of coloring. And adults encour- age children to express themselves in color, do a good job, and stay in the lines.
Mrs. Janice Hall Mc- Caskill is reconnecting with her love of art as an adult. Today, she has paintings on display in Columbus, Ohio, New Orleans, Louisiana, and New York City, New York. This weekend, she will travel to New York.
One of the paintings on
display is entitled “Scarlet
Bluez.” She selected her
daughter, Dionne, as the
model for the painting. It will
be on display until October 31st.
Sponsored by Oran-ge- nius, the painting is located at the intersection of 8th Av- enue and 38th Street, on Ban- ner 42. It is part of the ArtElevated Collection.
She recalls getting great joy from coloring. And, be- cause her mother owned a daycare center, she had the opportunity to color often.
A Tampa native, she at- tended the public schools of Hillsborough County. After high school, she continued her education at the Univer- sity of South Florida, where she earned a B. A. Degree in Fine Arts. She also earned Graduate Leadership Certifi- cation from USF.
Adulthood brought mar- riage, motherhood, employ- ment, and a hectic schedule. And, she found she didn’t have the time to invest in cre- ating art that brought about relaxation and contentment.

“One day one of the vol- unteers came up as I was ad- miring a beautiful picture. I learned that she had painted the picture and I shared my love of art. She asked if I had ever used paint and I said I hadn’t. We talked and she brought me a brown bag that contained everything I needed and told me to paint something and bring it back.
“When I brought my painting back, she was sur- prised that it was my first time and encouraged me. She said, you have to keep doing this. You have a natu- ral talent. I went on with my life and since then, I have tried to find her.”
Mrs. McCaskill has her own unique style utilizing bright and brilliant colors. Her paintings differentiate her from others because they reveal her inner emotions as a self-taught artist. However, the formal training she re- ceived has helped refine her technique without sacrificing her own style.
