Jay Z On To Next TV Project: This Time It’s About The First Black Special Ops Sniper
Gabrielle Union Sues BET Over Dispute About Series ‘Being Mary Jane’
Jay Z will produce 6-hour series on NBC about the first Black spe- cial ops sniper, Nicholas ‘The Reaper’ Irving.
Kim Kardashian is sick of MediaTakeOut.com’s bogus headlines about her robbery, and is going after the popular website in court.
Kim filed an eight-page complaint in Manhattan fed- eral court accusing the website of making up fake stories about her gunpoint robbery at the Hotel de Pourtalès in Paris, on October 3.
Kim claims the website is guilty of libel for articles that were published claiming to have inside sources about the robbery.
The future of BET’s signature drama Being Mary Jane could be in doubt after its star Gabrielle Union filed a mul- timillion-dollar breach of con- tract lawsuit against the cable net Tuesday.
Filed Tuesday in Los Ange- les Superior Court, the 17-page suit claims that although Union’s contract calls for no more than 13 episodes a sea- son, BET ordered 10-episode fourth and fifth seasons of the series to be shot back-to-back. Union says she and the net- work agreed to those terms, as

Kim K. also attacked the website for accusing her of committing a “federal crime” in a story that claimed she filed bogus $5.6 million insurance claim over the robbery, in which the armed robbers made off with $10 million in jewelry.
According to reports, the legal war could be heating up, since MediaTakeOut has re- fused to take down the stories and publish a retraction.

star and network since the show launched in 2013. Union and BET made a deal for max- imum 13-episode seasons so the actress could continue to pursue movie roles.
Union is seeking general damages of at least $3 million and a declaration that BET cannot seek more than 13 episodes for any season of Being Mary Jane. Series pro- ducer Breakdown Productions also is a defendant in the suit, which claims breach of con- tract and negligent misrepre- sentation.
Jay Z has announced his third project stemming from his deal with The Weinstein Company in the form of a his- torical docu-series based on Nicholas “The Reaper” Irving, the first African- American special ops sniper in the United States Army.
The six-hour mini-series will air on NBC and is based on his memoir The Reaper: Auto- biography of One of the Dead- liest Special Ops Snipers. The book describes The Reaper racking up a reported 33 kills during a four-month span in 2009. He also has an AR-15 named after him.
“The series will take a look
inside the life of the world of special ops,” according to a re- port by Page Six. “The plan is to start filming early next year.”
The series is slated to star Sterling K. Brown, who won an Emmy for “The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story” and currently appears on NBC’s “This Is Us.”
This is the latest of several moves Jay has made in con- junction with Weinstein. The Lee Daniels-directed biopic about Richard Pryor and a documentary series on the life of Kalief Browder are also in the works with the music mogul seated as producer.

Last weekend (Oct. 9), John Legend was back in his hometown of Springfield, Ohio to accept the dedication of a renovated theater that now bears his name.
Now known as The John Legend Theater, the 680-seat performance space started out as Springfield High School, then transitioned to South High School, which closed in 2008 after the school district built a new combined high school. With the help of Le- gend, the building won an $11.3 million grant to renovate
the auditorium, but it wasn’t enough to complete the reno- vation, so Legend put up $500k of his own money to complete the funding. Speed- way, Security National Bank and the Turner and Spring- field foundations also donated to the lofty renovation project.
The Springfield News-Sun
reports that during the cere- mony, Legend cut the ribbon and delivered a heartfelt speech. He also performed “All of Me,” “Love Me Now” and “Save Room For My Love” in- side the new theater.
