Trump Uses Separating Immigrant Children From Parents To Get Border Wall Funded
The campaign to spotlight the Trump administration’s forced separation of migrant children from their families at the U.S. border, trying to com- pel a change of policy and gain political advantage five months before midterm elections was expanded on Father’s Day.
With many Republicans who usually defend President Trump going silent, Demo- cratic lawmakers fanned out across the country, visiting a detention center outside New York City and heading to Texas to inspect facilities where chil- dren have been detained.
A detention camp where the children are being held in McAllen, Tex., several Demo- cratic lawmakers took a tour. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez of Texas estimated that he saw about 100 children younger than 6.
President Donald Trump suggested Saturday that he is using his administra- tion's separation of families at the U.S. border as a negotiating tool to get Democrats to cave on his immigration demands, which include funding for a border wall, curbing legal im- migration into the U.S., and tightening the rules for border enforcement.
Children are being detained in camps after parents are deported. President Trump using them as tools to get Democrats to vote his way.
What’s noteworthy about Trump’s border policy is how divided the Trump administra- tion is when TALKING about it.
According to NBC there is one faction (Trump) falsely blaming Democrats for the pol- icy; you have another faction (DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen) denying that the Trump administration is sepa- rating families; and you have another faction proudly touting the policy (Attorney General Jeff Sessions, White House chief of staff John Kelly and White House adviser Stephen Miller).
AG Sessions quotes the Bible to justify the
separation policy:
It's been called one of the most important and most mis- understood passages in the
Bible: Romans 13:1-7.
Likely written by the Apos-
tle Paul around 57 AD, Romans 13, including the snippet cited by Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Thursday, in- structs Christians to submit to "God's servants." That is, the government.
Romans 13 has been cited by Nazi sympathizers and apartheid-enforcers, slave owners and loyalists opposed to the American Revolution. Sessions said:
“I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13, to obey the laws of the govern- ment because God has or- dained them for the purpose of order.
White House press secre- tary Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended Sessions,
ATTORNEY GENERAL JEFF SESSIONS
saying, "It is very biblical to en- force the law."
Mrs. Trump Against ‘Children Being
Separated’
“Mrs. Trump hates to see
children separated from their families and hopes both sides
FIRST LADY TRUMP
of the aisle can finally come to- gether to achieve successful im- migration reform," according to a statement from her spokeswoman. "She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart.”
President Trump Statements Recently: True Or False
It’s Official: London Breed Is The New Mayor Of San Francisco
San Francisco Mayor London Breed.
Speaking of Trump and his re- lationship with the truth, here is our fact-check on at least 6 mis- leading or flat-out false state- ments that he made to White House reporters on Friday:
1. Trump claim: “There was no collusion. There was no obstruction. The IG re- port went a long way to show that. And I think that the Mueller investigation has been totally discredited.”
The facts: The IG report was about the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email probe, so it made no judgments whatsoever about facts in the Russia probe. Now the IG report did expose anti- Trump text messages from a key FBI official working in both the Clinton and Russia probes — Peter Strzok — and Trump here is probably arguing that the Russia probe is tainted by those opin- ions. But note: Strzok was re- moved from the Mueller probe in the summer of 2017.
2. Trump claim: “[Kim Jong Un] gave us the re- mains of our great heroes. I have had so many people begging me, parents and fa- thers, mothers, daughters, sons, wherever I went, could you please get the remains of my boy back?”
The facts: The Korean War took place from 1950 to 1953. A mother or father asking Trump to get the remains of their deceased son from the Korean War would
have to be WELL OVER 100 years old.
3. Trump claim: “Man- afort has nothing to do with our campaign. I feel a little badly about it ... You know, Paul Manafort worked for me for a very short period of time. He worked for Ronald Reagan. He worked for Bob Dole. He worked for many other he worked for me, what, 49 days or something. Very short period of time.”
The facts: Manafort, who served as the campaign’s chair- man, was hired on March 28, 2016 to lead the campaign’s dele- gate effort (in preparing for a po- tential convention floor flight), and Manafort resigned from the campaign on Aug. 19, 2016 — that’s 144 days.
4. Trump claim: “I feel badly for General [Michael] Flynn. He lost his house. He's lost his life. And some people say he lied. And some people say he didn't lie. I mean, really, it turned out maybe he didn't lie.”
The facts: Trump himself said that he fired Flynn because he lied. “I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice Presi- dent and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!” Trump tweeted on Dec. 2, 2017.
5 . Trump claim: “The De-
mocrats have to change their law. That's their law ... The Democrats forced that law upon our nation. I hate it. I hate to see separation of parents and children.”
The facts: Separating migrant families is a POLICY that the Trump administration an- nounced. "If you are smuggling a child then we will prosecute you, and that child will be separated from you as required by law," At- torney General Jeff Sessions said in May. "If you don't like that, then don't smuggle children over our border." And in an NPR in- terview, White House chief of staff John Kelly defending the policy, saying it was a “tough de- terrent” against illegal immigra- tion.
6. Trump claim: “No, no, President Obama lost Crimea, just so you under- stand. I want to make it so the fake news prints it prop- erly. President Obama lost Crimea. Wait, wait. That's his fault, yes, yes, it's his fault, it's his fault. President — just so you — because Putin didn't respect President Obama. President Obama lost Crimea because President Putin did- n't respect President Obama.
The facts: Russia annexed Crimea in 2014 — first by sending special forces into Ukraine, fol- lowed by a regional referendum when Crimea was under Russia control.
You may have heard about San Francisco’s recent may- oral election where the win- ner is a Black woman named London Breed. Madame Mayer made San Francisco history Wednesday as she was as- sured of becoming the first African American woman to be elected.
The new mayor took in a four-day vacation in Cabo San Lucas, and then hit the ground running.
Now ready to roll, Breed spoke with the LA Times about how she’ll tackle some of the biggest chal- lenges facing the Bay Area city.
Breed, who was raised by her grandmother in public
housing, said homelessness and affordable housing will be among her top priorities.
I’m so hopeful about the future of our city. I’m looking forward to serving as your mayor, and I’m truly hum- bled and truly honored,” Breed said in a brief appear- ance on the City Hall steps after the only candidate with a chance of catching her, for- mer state Sen. Mark Leno, conceded the race.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, ‘Breed’s victory sweeps aside a stubborn political barrier for women of color in San Francisco, and it will make the city the biggest in the U.S. to have a female mayor.’
