Christmas Decorations Blamed For Early Morning Fire
Members of Tampa Fire Rescue responded to an early morning fire early Thursday. The fire took place at 314 W. Crest Avenue, shortly before 3 a.m.
According to the Tampa Fire Department, when crews arrived at the residence, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the east side of the home. The fire had also spread to a van in the driveway of the neighbor’s home. It also affected a neigh- boring home.
Officials said the fire orig- inated on the front porch of the home and extended into the attic. The fire created major damage that resulted in a partial collapse of the building.
The Fire Marshal said it was determined to be acci- dental due to an electrical malfunction. There were sev- eral electrical cords plugged into an outlet connected to Christmas lights and decora- tion in the front yard.
There were two adults in the home at the time of the fire. Both escaped without in- jury, officials said.
Damage to the home is es- timated at $170,000. The home was declared a total loss. Damage to the neigh- bor’s van was estimated at $6,000.
