Remembering Dad
In Memory Of Our Father
FREDDIE LOWE June 17, 2013
Daddy, as we celebrate the third anniversary of you not being here with us, we like to say that you are thought of daily and you are truly, truly missed.
Also, Happy Father’s Day to a great father.
Love you, daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy, Gail and Archie Harrison, Lavonne Anderson, and Karen and Leonard Hart; grandchildren, great grandchildren, Cleo Lowe; sisters, brothers, and other family members.
BY MARVA G. WILLIAMS
A Father sat, solemnly, crying, as tears rolled down his cheeks his wife who sat right by his side, noticed him, and began to weep
His only son had just been born and they laid him on the bed
He fell on his knees, raised up his hands; And this is what he said:
“Thank you God for this wonderful gift of a son to call my own
And thank you for my health and strength and all the love you’ve shown
Lord help me to raise a son in this world to grow up and be like me
Help me to teach him right from wrong and to emulate the things that he sees
Lord let me always be by his side and guide him along the way
And when he stumbles, I’ll be right there in his footsteps day by day
Lord teach me the words I need to say when he falls and can’t get up
I’ll reach out my hand, grab on to his arm give him a drink from my fa- vorite cup
And when his path into the un- known is too far for me to see
Let Your watchful eyes cast light on him to a place where he needs to be
Then as Your hands reach out to him and he treads along the way
He lifts up his head, spreads out his hands and this is what he says:
“For all that you have done, All that you can do, and all that you are about to do,
FATHER, I THANK YOU!”
Foundation To Host Father’s Day Extravaganza
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
To all the fathers out there who feel ignored on Father’s Day and other events, Our Sisters, Our Friends has answered the call.
The foundation, founded by sisters Sheilah Young- blood and Ola Abreu, host free Thanksgiving meals every year, and now they’ve decided to extend their grati- tude to all the fathers in the area.
“The men are always talk- ing about how no one shows them any love on their birth- day, Father’s Day, or on Christmas,” said Mrs. Youngblood.
“We hope this event will
change that and our hospital- ity will be the same as with every event we’ve hosted. We will go all out for the fathers, and make sure they know this is their day, and they are more than appreciated.”
The Father’s Day Extrava- ganza will be held Sunday, June 19th at the Barksdale Senior Center at MacFarlane Park. Doors will open at 2 p.m.
“Come one, come all to this beautiful and thoughtful ex- pression and appreciation for all the fathers out there.
“This is their day, and this is for the grandfathers, young fathers, and the old fathers. This is also for the fathers who due to illness or incarcer- ation can’t celebrate this im- portant day.”
