Celebrating In June!
The month of June is beau- tiful! Summer, known as a fun, relaxing, and HOT time of the year, begins on June 20th. June is the sixth month of the year, marking the halfway mark of 2016. The birth flower for the month of June is the beautiful rose. The meaning of this well-known flower is beauty and passion- ate love. The birthstone for June is the pearl. The month of June is also known as African-American Music Month, and Juneteenth is cel- ebrated. So come on everyone, let’s celebrate and enjoy June!
Girls Incorporated Honors Women Of The Community
On May 19th, Girls Incorpo- rated of Lakeland recognized and honored three local women for their commitment to girls and women of the Lakeland community at its annual “She Knows Where
She’s Going” Awards Lunch- eon. The host-site of the event was The Lakeland Center.
Chosen from a nomination pool of 19 nominees, each awardee received a beautiful, engraved crystal bowl. The 2016 award recipients are: Meesha Downing, Assis- tant Principal of Westwood Middle School; Sharon Lewis Mathis, Equal Oppor- tunity Diversity Representa- tive of Polk County Schools; and Swanyetta Perry, As- sistant Principal of Crystal Lake Elementary. Congratula- tions, ladies! Thanks for all that you do for the community of Lakeland/Polk County.

Recognized For 7 Years Service
On Tuesday June 7th, the Polk County Board of County Commissioners and County Manager of Polk County, rec- ognized and presented an award for seven years of serv- ice to Dr. Shandale Terrell.
The award was presented to Dr. Terrell for his years of service on the Polk County Board of County Commission- ers - Community Relations Advisory Council. The recogni- tion was also for his increasing Community Relations, Diver- sity and Diversity Programs in Polk County.

On Friday, May 27, 2016, the President of Florida A&M Univer- sity, Dr. Elmira Mangum, presented the Distinguished National Alumni Award for Education to Dr. Shandale Terrell. Dr. Ter- rell was presented the Distinguished National Alumni Award for his hard work and dedication educating and mentoring students, and serving the community.
