Man Charged With Attacking Police Officers
A 27-year-old man is ac- cused of attacking two police officers Saturday night. The in- cident took place in Winter Haven after the officers re- sponded to a disturbance call.
According to the Winter
Haven Police Department, the officers were dispatched to a residence of 4th Street. N.E. When the first officer arrived, he found Marc Tucker, who did not live at the residence, arguing with his mother.
After asking Tucker to leave the property, he became irate at the officer and started cursing, and called 9-1-1 telling dispatch that the officer was cursing him. After being told to not call 9-1-1 again, Tucker allegedly called again.
A second officer arrived at the scene and when they at- tempted to place Tucker under arrest, he began to pull away and fight.
Tucker then punched one of the officers in the face and as they were going to the ground, he punched the officer a second time in the back of the neck. As they were on the ground, Tucker then struck the second officer in the face and then grabbed the offi- cer's radio from its holder on the duty belt, police said.
While on the ground, Tucker allegedly started to
grab the officer's firearm yelling, "I'm going to kill you!" The officer was able to pull Tucker's arm away and as Tucker contin- ued to fight, he deployed his department-issued Taser
which took effect.
The officers did not suffer
serious injury and medical treatment was not needed. Tucker was transported to Winter Haven Hospital for medical treatment. He continued to yell at both offi- cers and then spit in both offi- cers faces several times while at the hospital. He also contin- ued to threaten to kill them both. Once he was med- ically cleared, Tucker was transported to the Polk
County Jail.
Tucker was booked in the
Polk County Jail with charges as follows: 2 counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; 2 counts of battery on law en- forcement officer; 2 counts of resisting with violence; deprive officer means of protection/ communication; and misuse of 9-1-1.
