Black History: The History Behind The Names
     Williams Middle IB School
  In 2006, the Interna- tional Baccalaureate Organ- ization, bestowed upon Williams Magnet Middle School, the title of Williams International Baccalaureate Middle School.
The designation given the school by the organization, of Geneva, Switzerland, made Williams the first International Baccalaureate Middle School in the United States sanctioned by the or- ganization.
The school was named in honor of Dr. Reden Reche Williams. Dr. Williams was educated at Cookman Institute and
Dr. Reden Reche Williams February 25, 1881 --- November 17, 1964
graduated valedictorian of his class. He later returned to school and entered Meharry Medical College, graduating in 1907.
Dr. Williams became the first African American to perform major surgery in Tampa at the Clara Frye Hospital. He was also the last surviving founding member of the Tampa Urban League.
A member of several or- ganizations, including the Grand Master of the Ma- sons, Elks, Odd Fellows, among others.
Dr. Williams died on November 17, 1964.
