2017 Black Heritage Festival To Open With Gospel Night

The 17th Annual Black Heritage Festival opens with its Signature Gospel Night on Sunday, January 15, 2017. This is a paid event that is open to the public.
Gospel Night will be held at Allen Temple AME Church, 2101 N. Lowe St. Doors open at 7:30 p. m., program starts at 8 p. m. The featured guest for this event is Todd Dulaney, a former professional baseball player, who is now playing for the Lord.
The initial festival event to start the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration will be the Heritage Gala on Thursday, January 12, 2017, 7:30 p. m. at TPepin Hospi- tality Centre. This, too, is a paid event. Entertainment

will be provided by Willie Brown and Friends and popular 80s band, Lake- side.
The 11th Annual Heritage Golf Tournament will be held on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, January 16th, at Rogers Park Golf Course.
The Annual Heritage Leadership Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18th, 11:30 a. m. at the Uni- versity Area Community Center, 14013 N. 22nd St. The guest speaker will be the Honorable Bishop Vashti Murphy McKen- zie of the 10th District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Later in the evening, Youth Night will be held. This is a free event on Wednesday, January 18th, 6 p. m. at HCC Ybor Main Stage (15th Street).
A host of speakers will participate in the Financial Seminar spearheaded by William “Bill” Trotman on January 20th. The semi- nar is held at the Entrepre- neur Collaborative Center, 630-9:30 p. m.
Just before activities begin for the Music Festival, the 5K Felecia Ann Wintons Taylor Walk/Run for Health kicks off at Curtis Hixon Park, 7-8:30 a. m. There is a registration fee.
The 2-day Music Festival will close out the 2017 festi- val, January 21-22, 2017, at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.
On Saturday, January 21st, Anthony David and The Dazz Band will be the featured guests, along with local entertainment.

guest on Sunday, Jan. 22nd. Along with vendors in the park, there will be a number
of “Open Villages.”
Artists Village will feature
the artworks of local and re- gional artists; Authors Vil- lage will feature literature and books from local and re- gional individuals; Chil- dren’s Village will have a host of activities for the chil- dren – face painting, story- telling, educational activities, engaging activities, arts and craft; Health and Wellness Village – health screenings, information and demonstra- tions; Corporate Village – will feature Bay Area busi- nesses; and Technology Vil- lage will feature a variety of all things tech.
William Sanders, one of the organizers of the festi- val, along with Ruby Jack- son, says this year’s festival, as in the past, will have lots of activities for children and adults. He invites the public to attend them. To register for any of the events go to www.TampaBlackHeritage.o rg. The sale for Early Bird specials ends on January 8th.
Several of the events will need volunteers to assist par- ticipants. A mandatory volunteers’ orientation meeting will be held on Saturday, January 7th, 10-11:30 a. m. at the North Tampa Branch Li- brary, 8916 North Blvd. (Tampa 33604).
