11th Monthly Seniors Shuffleboard Tournament Held
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
For eleven consecutive months, members of the Seniors Shuffleboard Team have hosted Shuffleboard Tournaments. Recently, the organization held its 11th competition at Ragan Park Community Center.
This month, the tourna- ment’s first place winners were Linda Cotney, and Connie Bowen. The sec- ond place honors went to Sandra Mills and Audrey Acosta.
Members of the Shuffle- board Team have decided to wear colors to distinguish themselves from the other teams. The ladies represent- ing the Jazzy Seniors dress in black, while the VIP ladies adorn blue shirts.
The most recent area to create a Shuffleboard Team is the ladies of the Ella. They have not decided on a color yet.
However, while they may not have their colors yet, they have become a part of the Shuffleboard activity. They launched their first game on October 25th.
They are learning the game under the guidance and watchful eye of Steve Scott, Director and Trainer. He teaches the game at the
Ella, previously known as Central Park, to the Ella Seniors Residents on Thurs- day afternoons at 4 p.m.
He is assisted teaching the game by Katherine Palmer, who serves as the Assistant Trainer.
The gift cards for this month’s tournament were provided by Micah Miller, of Integrity Insurance and
Dr. Vondalyn Crawford,
of Health Matters Phar- macy.
Steve Scott said, “I would like to thank the sponsors for their support of the tournament. I would also like to invite other sen- iors to come out and learn the game.
Anyone interested in learning to play shuffleboard
can visit Ragan Park Com- munity Center, 1200 E. Lake Avenue. Scott teaches Shuf- fleboard on Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. He also teaches the game at Cyrus Greene Com- munity Center on Thursday, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Scott said he uses portable shuffleboards to train seniors at Williams
Park and Fair Oaks Commu- nity Centers.
Anyone wishing to learn more about shuffleboard matches or other senior ac- tivities at Ragan Park can call (813) 242-5316.
