8th Annual Back To School Giveaway Planned
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
It is unclear when children will begin the school year online or in the brick and mortar classrooms because of the COVID-19 Virus. And, while some things have changed, one local organization is con- tinuing to help students have all of the necessary tools needed for learning.
The uncertainty of the start of school is the re- sult of the COVID-19 Virus, but for the past 7 years, Pastor Horace Drew and the staff of Rays Of Hope Outreach Ministries have provided school supplies. This year, the organization will host its 8th Annual Back To School Giveaway.
The event will take place at the Rays Of Hope Outreach Ministries, 211 S. 22nd Street, Tampa, 33605. It will take place be- tween the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m on Sat- urday, August 15th.
Pastor Drew said, “We are doing things dif- ferently this year because of the virus, but we will still offer the supplies to the students. All children must be accompanied by a parent or an adult.”
He further said that the supplies will be given away in the following manner. “We will allow a certain number of students to enter, get their sup- plies, and leave. We are following the CDC recom- mendations. We are practicing social distancing and the wearing of masks. If anyone comes and does not have a mask, we will give them one.”
The event will take place rain or shine and everyone is encouraged to come early because it is on a first come, first serve basis, while supplies last.
The event is free and open to the public. Any- one who wants additional information about the giveaway can contact Pastor Drew at (813) 531- 5636.
