After 12 Tries, Francene Brannon Did It!
Francene Brannon had a life- long dream to become a Licensed Social Worker. Over the course of 13 years, she failed the test twelve times because life happens. Family mat- ters, surviving to get by, death in the family, self-doubt and pity parties were obstacles in her path. What she learned from this experience is that, “there are no expiration dates on dreams and you just have to keep trying.”
In her words, “Do not take life for granted, as we all have a purpose.”
With her mother (Leslie Miller) passing away, Francene keeps her mother’s inspirational and wise words close at heart: “Don’t get weary when doing well, for in due season you will reap the harvest if you faint not.” Francene has learned that it is ok to be scared and that she should never give up and to
keep on dreaming and keep trying. She remembered words of wis- dom from Katie McGill, Executive Director of Dress for Success, “It may not be your fault if you’re down, but it is your responsibility to get up.” Francene recalled that when she did not pass a test, Katie would say, “That’s okay, you just have to go back!” Although Francene never liked hearing those words, she fol- lowed them knowing they were good
advice.
Last Saturday (Sept.12th), her
success inspired a victory lap drive past her house, done by family, friends and staff of Dress for Success Tampa Bay. Her story inspired 11- year-old, Dwayne Jones, to make two huge signs in honor of Francene’s achievement.

Women’s Group Member, recently passed the Association of Social Work Board Exam. In a few weeks, she will be a Licensed Social Worker.
