2 Fire Rescue Officials Resign, 1 Demoted Amid Investigation
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
In November 2020,
Mayor Jane Castor
placed three Tampa Fire employees, Chief Nick LoCicero, Division Chief of Training Susan Tamme and Training Officer John Muralt on adminis- trative leave effective imme- diately, pending the outcome of an internal in- vestigation. Allegations of misconduct and a lack of su- pervisory oversight associ- ated with the misconduct prompted the investigation.
Last month, Chief LoCicero and Division Chief Tamme resigned during the investigation. Training Officer Muralt was demoted as a result of the findings of the investiga- tion.
At the onset of the inves- tigation, Chief LoCicero and Division Chief Tamme were placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with the City of Tampa’s administrative leave with pay policy. Mu- ralt was relieved of duty with pay pending the out- come of the investigation.
Mayor Castor said, “The City will conduct a fair,
MAYOR JANE CASTOR
thorough and expeditious investigation to determine the facts of what took place. I will take appropriate and swift action to address this issue, while ensuring our community and taxpayers continue to receive the high level of service they expect and deserve.
“This by no means is a reflection of the department as a whole. We hold all of our employees to high stan- dards and this should not di- minish the hard work and dedication of the men and women of our fire depart- ment who serve our commu- nity with dignity every day.”
City of Tampa Rescue Di- vision Chief, Barbara Tripp has served as the in- terim Fire Chief since the in- vestigation began.
