It’s often been said that practice makes perfect. And this seems to be the case in the Portable Shuffleboard Competition recently.
The Tournament was held at the Ragan Park Commu- nity Center, 1200 E. Lake Av- enue.
When the final score was tallied, the new winners took the first place titles. Ms. Linda Cotney and Ms. Connie Bowen captured the titles this month. The sec- ond place titles were be- stowed upon Ms. Audrey Acosta and Ms. Quincy Jefferson.
Each winner received a gift card as the prize.
The monthly Shuffleboard is the result of the hard work and dedication of Steve Scott. Scott serves as the Di- rector and Trainer of the or- ganization. Ms. Katherine Palmer is the Assistant Trainer.
Scott said, “We thank all of you for coming out to sup- port our seniors. This activity is to keep our seniors active, healthy, and to have a strong stability to do more!”
The shuffleboard team members represent the Spring Hill Community Cen- ter, the Fair Oaks Community Center, and the Ragan Park Community Center.
The teams currently use temporary or portable shuf- fleboards to play during the month. However, Scott has been campaigning to obtain a permanent shuffleboard court in the East Tampa com- munity.
Anyone interested in learning to play shuffleboard
can come to Ragan Park Community Center, 1200 E. Lake Avenue. Scott teaches the game to senior citizens on Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. He also teaches the game at Cyrus Greene Community Center on Thursday, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Scott said he uses portable shuffleboards to train seniors at Williams Park and Fair Oaks Community Centers.
Anyone wishing to learn more about shuffleboard matches or other senior activ- ities at Ragan Park can call (813) 242-5316.
