On February 19th, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigated a shooting that left a 25-year-old man dead. He was shot by someone inside an apartment in which he had forced entry.
According to police, Ter- rance Roach, Jr., of Apopka, was pronounced dead inside an apartment in the Town N’ Country area.
Roach is alleged to have ap- proached a woman who lived in the apartment and forced her back inside at gunpoint. Once inside the apartment, Roach and an unidentified man be- came engaged in a fight. Roach was fatally injured and died at the scene.
However, as police con- ducted the investigation into the shooting, they reportedly uncovered additional informa- tion that tied 20-year—old Xavier Radhames De La Cruz, also of Apopka, to the case.
The criminal affidavit charging De La Cruz with sec- ond-degree murder stated that Roach had a cell phone in his pocket at the time of his death that provided various text mes- sages from someone known as Xavier.
Xavier reportedly provided Roach with specific informa- tion pertaining to the location of certain items inside the apartment, including the num- ber of guns.
A woman in Orange County, who said she was Roach’s girlfriend, provided police with the last name of the man known as Xavier. De La Cruz was arrested and is cur- rently being held in the Orange County Jail.
Police have not released the names of the people inside the apartment because they are considered witnesses to the crime, a spokesperson said.
According to police, early Friday morning, deputies re- sponded to a burglary in Riverview. Upon arriving at the scene, police determined that the suspect entered the home during the night through an unlocked garage door. Once inside, the suspect took credit cards and keys to a 2011 Ford Mustang.
He then used the keys to leave the residence in the Mus- tang, closing the garage door behind him. There were 3 peo- ple, including a child in the home at the time of the bur- glary.
As the investigation contin- ued, police learned that some- one had used the victim’s credit card at a local Wal- Mart. Detectives recognized the suspect from the store’s surveillance camera from pre- vious encounters. He was identified as Nathan Isaiah Campbell, of Gibsonton.
Deputies responded to the school where the teenager at-
