Normally, Breast Cancer Awareness is observed na- tionwide during October. However, a group of Tampa women believe Breast Cancer Awareness should be a year- old event.
With that in mind the Professional Women’s Group (PWG), an affiliate of Dress For Success, is hosting “Early Detection Gives You A Fight- ing Chance,” a breast cancer awareness event.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016, 11 a. m. – 2 p. m. at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Branch Li- brary, 1505 N. Nebraska Ave.
The focus of this event is to encourage women to be- come active in checking their breasts monthly for lumps or changes.
“So often we will notice a small change and think noth- ing of it,” states Lauriel Jones, a member of PWG and Dress for Success. “But, that is the time to become ag- gressive and check it out. We have invited Moffitt Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society, the Health Dept.,

Sherry Sutton, the mother of 7 children, found it tough raising them mostly as a single parent, but she’s preparing to put it all behind her now.
Her seventh child and last child, Steven Ogletree, will be celebrating his 18th birth- day Friday (February 26th), preparing to graduate from high school, and deciding what he’ll be doing next in his life.
Ogletree excelled playing football in Plant City, and has been getting offers from schools trying to lure him to their campus.
“He’s a great kid, a great student, and enjoys hanging out with his girlfriend,” said Ms. Sutton.
“He loves working out and playing basketball in his free time, and despite his father being in and out of his life since he was 2, he’s turned out to be an exceptional young man.”
Ms. Sutton said Steven’s main mission is to get out of Plant City and do something great with his life.
“He wants to make a dif-
ference, and he wants to put himself in a position where he can help others.”
One of Steven’s coaches, Ivan Brooks, said he’s known the young man since he was a small child.
“We developed quite a rapport, but it’s his mom who did a fantastic job in raising him and bringing others into his life to help mold him into a disciplined young man.
“She’s done a great job with him, and attended all of his games. She was his biggest supporter.”
Coach Brooks said he always tells kids to focus on what they have instead of what they don’t have.
“I came from a similar home structure as Steven, and we had a lot in common.
“I constantly told him to be humble and that will take him a long way.”
A family friend and the mother to Steven’s girl- friend, Suake-Via, Aja Green, said everyone is so proud of what Steven has ac- complished.
“He was surrounded by so much negativity, and for him to overcome all of that makes him a unique young man with great discipline and goals.”
