Project By FDOT To Impact AKA House, Mobley Park Apartments
MOBLEY PARK APARTMENTS
According to Kris Carson, Media Specialist for the Florida De- partment of Transportation (FDOT), they are continuing to have public meetings to discuss the Tampa Bay Express Project and the expansion of the I-275 portion of the interstate.
According to Carson, aside from the Tampa Heights Commu- nity Center being impacted, Friendly M. B. Church, the AKA House, and Mobley Park Apartments will also be impacted.
Mobley Park Apartments were built in 2001, and contains 96 mixed units. Mauricio Rosas with Sunshine Citizens said he spoke to the manager at Mobley Park, and they had no idea the com- plex had been targeted.
“She told me she knew nothing about it, and no one from FDOT had talked to her or the owners of the complex.
“It’s very important that more African Americans attend these meetings, because all of our futures are at stake. We must represent Tampa Heights and Seminole Heights communities and let FDOT know we’re not going to allow them to bully us out of our commu- nity.”
Carson said the plans right now are tentative, but it’s confirmed that the project will cause the three areas mentioned earlier to either relocate or downsize.
The next public meeting to talk about the project will be held Monday, February 29th, from 5:30 p. m. to 7: 30 p. m. at the Children’s Board on Palm Avenue.
