White House And Government News
Pres. Trump More Upset About Protesters Than Anything Else
President Donald Trump has tangled with House Freedom Caucus mem- bers opposed to his health plan, with Democrats eager to see him flop and with foreign leaders skeptical he has the chops to be a commander in chief.
But there’s one group that really gets under his skin — protesters.
The latest flare-up came this past weekend, when Trump’s motorcade took an unex- pected detour on Saturday as he returned to his Mar-a-Lago resort from the Trump Inter- national Golf Club. The longer route bypassed a throng of protesters, participating in a nationwide demonstration
calling for Trump to release his tax returns, as past presi- dents have done.
The president also vented on Twitter.
“I did what was an almost an impossible thing to do for a Republican-easily won the Electoral College! Now Tax Returns are brought up again?” Trump wrote on Twitter Sunday after Satur- day’s tax marches. “Someone should look into who paid for the small organized rallies yes- terday. The election is over!”
For all the pleasure the pres- ident takes in the adulation of massive crowds, he seems to take special umbrage with mass demonstrators who op- pose his agenda.
American Fighter Jets Intercept Russian Bombers Off Alaskan Coast
American fighter jets have been scrambled to intercept Russian bombers off the coast of Alaska in the first such confrontation since Donald Trump took office.
Two F-22 Raptor stealth jets and an E-3 Sentry early warning plane were dis- patched in international air- space on Monday night.
They flew alongside a pair of Tu-95 Bear bombers off
Kodiak Island for several minutes on Monday evening,
before the Russian aircraft peeled away and headed back towards their base.
Navy Commander Gary Ross, a spokesman for the Pentagon, described the in- terception as “safe and pro- fessional”.
The North American Aero- space Defense Command monitors approaches to the US’ area of interest, just out- side its sovereign airspace.
Secret Service Detain Man Who Has Been Stalking Malia Obama
The U.S. Secret Service de- tained a lovelorn Brooklyn man for stalking and harass- ing Malia Obama, daughter of the former President, at the White House and in New York, sources said Wednes- day.
Jair Nilton Cardoso
went to the fourth floor of a building in Tribeca where Obama, 18, interns on April 10, put a sign in the window and loudly begged her to marry him, sources said.
Two Secret Service agents assigned to her detail kicked him out, sources said.
Malia Obama is interning in NYC now. Her Secret Service agents had to commit a psy- chotic man who has been stalking her.
Two days later Cardoso, 30, followed Obama out of a building in the West Village
where she also interns, sources said.
Secret Service agents stopped him and recognized him as the man who had re- peatedly tried to get into the White House in the past, sources said. They told him to go away and leave her alone, sources said.
The next day, Secret Serv- ice agents went to Car- doso's Brooklyn apartment and interviewed him, sources said. They concluded he had psychiatric issues and took him to a Brooklyn hospital for evaluation.
Trump Boasts About Warning To N. Korea, But The Strike Ship Was Headed The Other Way
Strike group ships were headed in opposite direction when Pres. Trump boasts of warning to N. Korea.
When U.S. President Donald Trump boasted early last week that he had sent an "armada" as a warn- ing to North Korea, the air- craft carrier strike group he spoke of was still far from the Korean peninsula, and headed in the opposite direc- tion.
It was even farther away over the weekend, moving through the Sunda Strait and then into the Indian Ocean, as North Korea displayed what appeared to be new mis- siles at a parade and staged a failed missile test.
The U. S. military's Pacific
Command explained on Tuesday that the strike group first had to complete a shorter-than-initially planned period of training with Aus- tralia. But it was now "pro- ceeding to the Western Pacific as ordered," it said.
The perceived communica- tions mix-up has raised eye- brows among Korea experts, who wonder whether it erodes the Trump adminis- tration's credibility at a time when U. S. rhetoric about the North's advancing nuclear and missile capabilities are raising concerns about a po- tential conflict.
Bill O’Reilly Shakes Hands With The Pope While His Bosses Plan His Exit
Bill O’Reilly shook hands with Pope Francis in the Vatican on Wednesday amid mounting blowback from his sexual harassment allega- tions and reports of his im- minent firing.
The besieged Fox News an- chor, enjoying an Italian va- cation while network execs reportedly decide his future, was pictured clasping the pontiff’s hand in a photo from Vatican news service L’Osservatore Romano.
He’d scored a seat in a VIP section at the Pope’s weekly general audience, according to the New York Times.
Bill O’Reilly has been on vacation in Italy since the New York Times outed him on multiple harassment charges. His show has since loss credibility and sponsors. He got an audience with the Pope while in Italy.
