State Rep. Announces Candidacy For Senate Seat
State Representative Ed Narain announced on Wednesday, his candidacy for the Florida Senate, District 19. The announcement follows a successful legislative agenda highlighted by relief for the families of the Dozier School for Boys and funding for water quality and community proj- ects in Tampa Bay.
The seat includes parts of Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. It will be vacated by Senator Arthenia Joyner due to term limits.
Rep. Narain said his de- cision to enter the race was based on the encouragement of his constituents and the ex- perience of past legislative ses- sions.
“I’m pleased that in spite of the very partisan agenda pushed in Tallahassee that I’ve been able to get good things done for Tampa Bay’s citizens.
“From community service to political service my guiding principal has been to focus on what's best for Florida and fight to make a difference for all people. It’s why I’ve been very involved in the commu- nity and why I ran for the State House. The State Senate is the place I can continue making a

difference. This race will be about the future of our state, and who is best prepared to lead us there.”
Rep. Narain continued, “We have been able to do some great things the past couple of years to improve our commu- nity. But there are still big is- sues facing Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. We need a leader with strong pro- gressive principles to take on those tough fights.
“Our children need good schools where learning, not testing, is the goal. We need more jobs and job-training programs to give workers the skills needed to be successful.
Here in Tampa Bay we have a rich history of welcoming peo- ple from all walks of life. So we should be defenders of fairness for all of our neighbors and every Floridian, regardless of where they came from, who they love, or what they look like,” he said.
Rep. Narain, who also serves as the Chairman of the Florida Legislative Black Cau- cus further said, “I’m running for State Senate to continue in the tradition of principled leadership from legislators like Senator Arthenia Joyner, Les Miller and James Har- grett.”
He continued, “Tampa Bay is on the move, and we need to continue moving forward with leadership that has a progres- sive vision for the future of the region.”
Rep. Narain enters the race with a strong fundraising position, with a 4-to-1 cash on hand advantage over Repre- sentative Darryl Rouson and a 6-to-1 cash on hand ad- vantage on former Represen- tative Betty Reed.
The Democratic primary election for Senate District 19 will be held on Tuesday, Au- gust 30th, 2016.
