Kamala Harris Is Ending Her Presidential Campaign
Kamala Harris is ending her presidential campaign, marking a stunning early exit for the California senator who was once considered to be in the top tier of the Democratic field. She informed staff today that she is suspending her campaign, according to an aide.
"I’ve taken stock and looked at this from every angle, and over the last few days have come to one of the hardest de- cisions of my life," Harris wrote in a Medium post to sup- porters. "My campaign for president simply doesn’t have the financial resources we need to continue."
Harris, the daughter of Ja- maican and Indian immi- grants, launched her campaign before a crowd of some 20,000 people in Oakland in January. She rocketed in polls over the summer after she confronted former vice president Joe Biden over the issue of race at the first Democratic debate, one of the most memorable moments of the campaign so far.

Dropping Out
Sen. Kamala Harris snapped back at President Donald Trump on Tuesday after Trump mocked her soon after she announced she was dropping out of the race to challenge him in next year’s election.
“Too bad. We will miss you Kamala!” he tweeted after she said she was suspending her campaign earlier in the day.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Presi- dent,” Harris replied, 10 minutes later. “I’ll see you at your trial.”
WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D- Calif., announced Thursday that she was asking the House Judiciary Committee and chairmen of other committees to proceed with drafting arti- cles ofimpeachment against President Donald Trump, saying "the president leaves us no choice but to act."
“Sadly, but with confi- dence and humility, with alle- giance to our founders and our heart full of love for America, today, I am asking our chairmen to proceed with articles of impeachment,” Pelosi said in a brief televised statement from the Capitol, speaking directly to the Amer- ican people.
The facts of Trump's al- leged wrongdoing involving Ukraine, she said, "are uncon- tested.”
"The president abused his power for his own personal, political benefit at the expense of our national security by withholding military aid and crucial Oval Office meeting in exchange for an announce- ment of an investigation into his political rival,” Pelosi said, adding that his actions

According to the Baltimore Sun, Jennifer Cummings, the congressman’s eldest daughter, revealed in a written statement that both she and her sister, Adia, would be en- dorsing Harry Spikes to fill the seat in Maryland’s 7th

"seriously violated the Consti- tution."
"Our democracy is what's at stake," Pelosi continued. "The president leaves us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt, once again, the election for his own bene- fit."
Pelosi began her state- ment citing deliberations by the Founding Fathers with re- gard to impeachment, saying in particular that "they feared the prospect of a king-presi- dent corrupted by foreign in- fluence."

To protect the nation from that possibility, Pelosi said that the founders “created a Constitutional remedy to pro- tect against the dangerous or corrupt leader — impeach- ment.”
The House Judiciary Com- mittee announced afterward that it will hold its next im- peachment on Monday at 9 a.m. ET, when the panel will receive presentations from Democratic and GOP counsels to the Intelligence Committee on the evidence collected in the inquiry.

“Our father often said of
himself that he was ‘an ordi- nary man called to an extraor- dinary mission,’ and Harry embodies that same spirit,” Jennifer Cummings wrote in the statement, adding that
Spikes “has the unique ability to build a multigenerational and diverse coalition of sup- port.”
The two sisters also stood alongside Spikes last week when he officially tossed his hat into the already crowded field last week.
In her statement, Jennifer Cummings said that it was the late congressman’s desire to have as many freshman members of Congress assigned to his committee so that he could help prepare the next generation for leadership, ac- cording to the Sun.
“Harry Spikes represents that next generation of leader- ship,” she added.
This revelation comes sev- eral weeks after Maya Rock- eymoore Cummings, who married the late lawmaker in 2008, announced her own bid for the seat left behind by her husband.
“He wanted me to continue this fight and I’m going to con- tinue this fight and run the race, and prayerfully, win,” Rockeymoore Cummings, 48 told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow earlier this month.
