Florida Democratic Party To Host African American Voter Summits
Last week, the Florida Democratic Party announced a series of African American Voter Summits to be held throughout the state. The first Summit was held in Miami on Saturday, August 25.
The 6 summits are in partnership with the Demo- cratic Black Caucus of Florida and will feature cam- paign trainings, panel discus- sions featuring candidates and elected officials, and strategy meetings on voter turnout.
The Summits are part of a larger plan to increase excite- ment about voting and train- ing in the African American communities.
The next scheduled Sum- mit will take place on Sep- tember 1st in Fort Lauderdale. The Summit will take place in Jacksonville on September 29, and in Orlando on Octo- ber 6th.
CHAIRMAN LYDIA HUDSON, Democratic Black Caucus of Florida
The dates for the Sum- mits in Hillsborough County and the Panhandle will be announced at a later date.
Chairman Lydia Hud- son, of the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida said, “There is too much at stake in 2018. I have worked closely with Chairwoman Terrie
Rizzo and Democrats across the state to develop a first-of- its-kind African American outreach plan for Florida. After 2016, the Florida Dem- ocratic Party isn’t taking any vote for granted - and this ef- fort shows that.
“This is just the begin- ning. Earning the African American vote must be a constant journey and to do that we must work together. I'm looking forward to using this program to turnout a record number of African American voters in Novem- ber,” Ms. Hudson said.
The summits are a part of a nearly half a million dollars investment made by the Florida Democratic Party for African American voter turnout. The DBCF and FDP are working together, putting more resources and money into turning out the African American community than ever before.
