Police Investigate Hacking Of Mayor’s Twitter Account
The Tampa Police are in- vestigating a hack to Mayor Bob Buckhorn’s Twitter account. Mayor Buckhorn is aware of the hack.
Police said detectives are attempting to identify the person responsible for the hacking. However, they said there are no credible threats.
Mayor Buckhorn re- leased the following state- ment: "Earlier this morning we noticed someone hacked Mayor Buckhorn's twitter account, this was clearly not Mayor Buckhorn.
“Upon noticing the hack we immediately began inves- tigating these reprehensible tweets. We are working with the Tampa Police Depart- ment as well as all investiga- tors to figure out how this

breach was made.
“We urge residents to
change their passwords and continue to alert officials when they see an unlikely change in account activity. We are continuing to work with law enforcement to in-
vestigate all threats made by this hack."
The hacked messages started appearing around 4 a.m., Thursday. They in- cluded child pornography, pornography, and racist statements.
The hackers accused Mayor Buckhorn of being the “City of Tampa’s Mayor White Supremes Hater.”
Another twit stated, “EMERGENCY ALERT BAL- LISTIC MISSILE THREAD INBOUND TO THE BAY AREA. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”
In another tweet, it was stated that there was a bomb hidden in a package at Tampa International Airport.
The investigation into the hacking is continuing, police said.
Police have taken down the fake tweets sent from Mayor Buckhorn’s ac- count.
