California AG: At Least 16 States Suing Over Trump's National Emerge
Poll: 6-In-10 Disapprove Of Trump's Declaration Of A National Emergency
More than 6-in-10 Ameri- cans disapprove of Presi- dent Trump's decision to declare a national emergency so he can build barriers along the U.S border with Mexico, a newNPR/PBS News- Hour/Marist poll finds.
Nearly 6-in-10 also don't believe there is an emergency at the southern border and that the president is misusing his presidential authority. They also believe that his de- cision should be challenged in court.
"All things related to the declaring of a national emer- gency, the president is strik- ing out in the court of public opinion," said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the survey. "He's maintaining his base and little else."

California, New York and 14 other states filed a lawsuit Monday challenging Donald Trump's national emergency declaration.
"On Presidents Day, we took President Trump to court to block his misuse of presidential power," Califor- nia Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in a statement. President Trump "is will- ing to manipulate the Office of the Presidency to engage in unconstitutional theater

Pamela Taylor, who once directed the Clay County Development Corp., pleaded guilty to embezzle- ment Tuesday and agreed to repay the $18,149 disaster benefits she lied to receive. She was charged after a probe by the Department of Homeland Security and the state Commission on Special Investigations.
Taylor falsely regis- t e r e d for benefits after floods devastated the county in June 2016, according to a Department of Justice press release. She lied that her home was damaged, forcing her to move into a rental unit, when in fact she had been staying in her primary residence all along.
“The flood was a natural disaster. Stealing from FEMA is a manmade disas- ter,” U.S. Attorney Mike Stu- art said. “Taylor’s fraud scheme diverted disaster benefits from our most des- perate and vulnerable, those most in need of help.”
Stuart said his office “takes heinous acts like steal- ing from disaster relief funds very seriously and will pros- ecute each and every case brought to us to the maxi- mum extent of the law.”
Taylor was fired from her county job following President Donald Trump’s election in 2016, when she wrote the racist re- mark about Obama, then first lady, on Facebook.
She faces up to 30 years imprisonment and a fine of as much as $500,000 when she’s sentenced in May.
