Jackson Heights Neighborhood Association Completes 2021 Community Services

Jackson Heights Neigh- borhood Association hosted its final meeting for the year on Tuesday, October 19th at 6:30 p. m. at the Open Cafe.
"It's been a very challeng- ing year for us but, by the grace of God we were able to serve our community in spite of the COVID-19 virus and the Delta variant," stated Fran Tate, President of Jackson Heights Neighborhood Asso- ciation and Crime Watch.
“We kicked off the year by donating lunch to Fire Station #10 located at 3108 N. 34th Street. Breakfast was deliv- ered to the Tampa Police De- partment, District III Precinct located at 3808 N. 22nd Street. We led GAI consultant, Pete Sechler on the Strate- gic Action Plan walk through the Jackson Heights commu- nity. Founded "Peace In Our Streets, East Tampa Neigh- borhoods AGAINST GUN VI- OLENCE,” and partnered with Ybor Heights Crime Watch group, Northeast Neighborhood Association, Safe and Sound of Hillsbor- ough County and the CDC of
Tampa, to hold two of our three community roundtable talks. We are planning the final one soon,” Ms. Tate fur- ther explained.
Other projects included participating in the painting of the Blacks Lives Matter street mural located on East 21st Avenue and North 15th Street on Saturday, June 27, 2020, along with artist Mr. James Vann and other com- munity organizations.
The Jackson Heights Neighborhood Association and Crime Watch will end this year's community service with two final events. The first will be participating in the Tampa Police Department Precinct III Trunk or Treat to be held at the precinct on Sunday, Oc- tober 31st, 4 p. m.-8 p. m. Community children are in- vited to attend. The second event will be the second an- nual community "Lights in the Heights" yard decora- tion contest for the Christmas holidays.
The neighborhood associ- ation board will canvas the Jackson Heights community
on December 17th, 18th and 19th to select the top three homes with the most festive
yard decorations. Cash prizes will be awarded. All others will receive a certificate
of participation.
Previous winners will not
qualify.
