Meek Mill’s Lawyers Claim Judge In Case Under Investigation; Ask Again For Appeal
Discovery Communications has increased its ownership stake in the OWN: Oprah Win- frey Network TV joint venture, in an agreement reached with Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo, Inc.
Under the terms of the new deal, Discovery paid $70 mil- lion to acquire an additional 24.5% stake in OWN from Harpo, Inc..
The purchase increases Dis- covery’s ownership of the Black TV network to 74.5%.
This means that Discovery is now majority owner of OWN, with Winfrey’s Harpo retain- ing a minority interest of 25.5%. Previously Discovery and Harpo co-owned the OWN network with a 50/50 percent- age split between the two.
Oprah Winfrey has given up her 1/2 interest in OWN, by sell- ing 24.5% of her 50% share of OWN to Discovery Communica- tions.
In addition, Ms. Winfrey, 64, will continue in her role as CEO of OWN, with her exclu- sivity commitment to the net- work extended through 2025.
Discovery Communications is also in the process of acquir- ing Scripps Network Interac-
tive, the owners of HGTV and Food Network.
Discovery will now be the home to five of the top pay-TV networks for women, repre- senting 20% share of women watching primetime pay-TV in the U.S.
Meek Mill’s legal team is again asking an appeals court to free him from prison.
Lawyers for the rapper filed their appeal with Pennsylva- nia’s Superior Court on Mon- day, the same day that the Philadelphia judge who jailed Mill denied to release him and called him a “danger to the community.”

violating probation on a roughly decade-old gun and drug case.
His lawyers unsuccessfully appealed to the higher court last week and have also called for the judge to step aside be- cause “there was an FBI inves- tigation” into her conduct and Mill’s case.
The FBI says it does not confirm or deny investiga- tions. The judge has had no comment.
Chance The Rapper continues to support the event at the Chicago library in honor of his late mentor. In honor of the 3rd anniversary he handed out the limited edition of the red Michael Jordan 11 Retro sneakers.
