Retirement Celebration Honors Mrs. Doretha Edgecomb
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
A retirement celebration to honor School Board Member, Mrs. Doretha Edgecomb will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016, 5-7 p. m. at TPepin’s Hospitality Centre's Grand Ballroom, 4121 N. 50th Street, Tampa, 33610.
Mrs. Edgecomb dedicated 52 years of serv- ice to Hillsborough County Public Schools and served the local community with class and grace. Now it is time to dedicate one night to Mrs. Edgecomb.

Student Chosen As First Black Plant City High ‘Cover Girl’

Each year, young ladies at- tending high school compete for one of 13 slots in the Plant City Calendar Girl 2017 Competition. One young lady is chosen as the “Cover Girl” and 12 others represent the months in the calendar.
This year, Ms. Jordin Vance-Lewis was chosen as the “Cover Girl.” This marks the first time an African Amer- ican has been chosen for the honor. She was one of five teens of color competing in the contest.
A native of Hillsborough County, Ms. Vance-Lewis is the oldest of four daughters of Ray and Iris Lewis, and the granddaughter of Willie and Henrietta Fleming and Rayford and Donna Lewis.
She attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. She is currently a jun- ior at Plant City High School, where she maintains a 3.8 grade point average.

2017 “Cover Girl” for Calendar Girl 2017 Competition
At school, Ms. Vance- Lewis is active in several clubs and organizations in- cluding Student Government, President of the Junior Execu- tive Council, AVID, Best Bud- dies, Student Alliance, Special Olympics, and the Inter Coun- cil Committee.
She is also a member of the
Varsity Lady Raiders Volley- ball, Basketball, and Flag Foot- ball teams.
Ms. Vance-Lewis is also actively involved at her churc.h, Sanctuary Of Hope Worship Ministries, and in the community.
After graduating from high school, Ms. Vance-Lewis plans to attend Florida A & M University, where she will pur- sue a degree in Speech Pathol- ogy.
The fundraiser was held on September 10, at Plant City High School, with thirty-three young ladies competing. The other winners were: Drew Knotts, Edmilly Molina, Courtney Coton, Maddi- son Sapp, Emily Menia, Alexandria Almon, Abby Almon, Abigail Devane, Savannah Kummelman, Caitlyn Wright, Caroline Brummer, and Sarah Salem.

Transportation Town Hall Meetings Planned
The Hillsborough County School District will host two town hall meetings for all transportation employees to attend.
The first meeting will be held on October 11th, at 6 p.m., to 8 p.m. It will be held at Gaither High School, 16200 N. Dale Mabry Highway, in the school’s auditorium. The second meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 12th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Bran- don High School, 1101 Victoria Street.
The meetings will be led by Jeff Eakins, Superintendent, and School Board Chairperson April Griffin. Other school board members may also be in attendance.
