Former Bank Officer Sentenced For Embezzlement
On Wednesday, a federal judge handed down a prison sentence to a former bank offi- cer. The court also entered a money judgment against the defendant.
U. S. District Judge James D. Whittemore sentenced 56-year-old Michael John- son, of Odessa, to serve 18 months in jail for embezzle- ment and misapplication of funds. The Court also entered a money judgment in the amount of $152,783, which is considered the proceeds of the crime.
According to his plea agree- ment and court documents, Johnson was employed as a Senior Vice President and Special Assets Officer at Mo- mentum Bank, an FDIC in- sured institution that was a member bank of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas.
He was responsible for mar- keting and selling bank-owned properties to investors in order to remove the troubled assets from the bank’s balance
sheet. Johnson signed the closing documents, including the HUD-1 Settlement State- ment, on behalf of American Momentum Bank.
Officials said beginning around June 2012, and con- tinuing through November 2014, Johnson devised a scheme to misapply and em- bezzle funds provided by American Momentum Bank.
After the sale of bank- owned property had been ap- proved by American Momentum Bank, Johnson set up closings with real estate settlement agents.
Johnson then contacted the settlement agents and or- dered additions and/or changes to the disbursement side of the HUD-1. After clos- ing, funds from American Mo- mentum were misapplied by directing checks to be written or the wiring of funds to bank accounts that were controlled by Johnson’s family mem- bers.
Authorities Search For Man Who Threatened To Blow Up Bank
Winter Haven Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a 40-year-old man who made threats to blow up the SunTrust Bank in Winter Haven.
On September 9, 2016, au- thorities said Surujpaul Persaud Ramlogan went to SunTrust bank, 595 Cypress Gardens Boulevard, southeast and complained about a bank transaction that had been re- versed from his account.
An associate at the bank re- ported that Ramlogan had made a deposit utilizing a business check from the sale of a car on Craigslist. How- ever, 24-hours later the bank reversed the transaction after learning the check had been drawn on a closed account.
Authorities said Ramlo- gan refused to accept the ex- planation and reportedly yelled “How would you like it if I came back and shot every- one at the bank?” A represen- tative at the bank told Ramlogan he was in a feder- ally-protected business and to stop making threats.

12-Year-Old Charged As Adult For Making Threats
On Tuesday, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said his deputies arrested a 12-year-old boy and charged him as an adult on allegations he made an online threat against Seven Springs Middle School.
The boy, whose name was not released, is facing a charge of making a written threat to kill, a second-degree felony. He reportedly threatened students at his school in New Port Richey through social network- ing using a video app.
Officials said the threat said, “Hello, I am going to kill kids at Seven Springs Middle School on Friday, October 7th, 2016. Get ready, 6th graders, for your worst day and your last day.” The threat was made under the account “clouning around” that had 32 followers.
When parents discovered the threat, they immediately called law enforcement, who tracked the account to the 12- year-old boy.
According to Sheriff Nocco, the boy thought the threat was funny, and his agency does believe the boy planned to carry out the threat, or had the means to do so.
