Readers Share Opinions About Final Debate
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On Wednesday night, the third and final presidential de- bate took place. It provided the candidates an opportunity to showcase their plans for the country and gave the voters a chance to listen and make their decisions.
Some Tampa residents who watched the debate shared their opinions and comments with Sentinel readers.
Mrs. Bonnye Crews said, “On Wednesday night, Hillary Clinton won the third and final presidential de- bate. Like the others, this de- bate was an energetic exchange of ideals and barbs, with moments of straight up weirdness interjected by Don- ald Trump. That was ex- pected. I was stunned, however, when Secretary Clinton was questioned about hacked WikiLeaks emails.
“According to intelligence shared with President Obama, these emails were il- legally obtained by Kremlin- level Russians with the goal of influencing our presidential
election in favor of the weakest candidate. I felt it was reckless for the moderator to legitimize these unverified emails by ref- erencing them in this debate. SayNoToWikiLeaks.”
Danny Green said, “This was the best debate so far. At least they stuck to some of the issues in the country. Instead of attacking each other, but that came later. When Don- ald Trump says inner city, he always mentions that African Americans have no jobs. Not all African Americans live in the inner city. I'll be glad when this election is over, I'm so tired of the negative talk. Hillary stood her grounds on taxes, the economy, and other issues.”
Rev. Karen Jackson Sims said, “I am so thankful the debates are over and am prayerful that if nothing else, these debates have shown how important it is for us ALL to vote. It was clear that we have two very different candidates with two very different propos- als for the future of our coun- try.
“I am convinced that this election on a national, state,
and local basis will either keep the strides we have made mov- ing on and affording our chil- dren greater opportunities, or will take us back to the darkest days of the 50s and 60s. We must go to the polls, knock on doors, call friends and family to keep what others gave their lives for us to have. This de- bate shows we can take noth- ing for granted.”
Billy Wheeler said, “For the third time, we witnessed the difference between one candidate who has the educa- tion, experience, and tempera- ment to lead the country, and another contender who's grossly unqualified.”
Dr. Samuel Wright said, “Hillary Clinton is presiden- tial and ready to lead. Her 30- year parallelism that of Donald Trump's was enough to sway any undecided voter! Donald Trump is the apocalyptic candidate --- meaning he is prophesizing the destruction of the United States by his actions and philosophies.
“Hillary appreciates the work and efforts of President Barack Obama and Donald
Trump despises President Obama. It is easy to compre- hend what the American peo- ple have gleaned from the debates --- unadulterated truth vs. selfish racist rheto- ric.”
Dr. George Foxx said, “The final presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump was an im- proved performance by both candidates. The defining mo- ment in the debate was when asked of Mr. Trump would he accept the outcome. His re- sponse took away from his im- provement.
“The winner and loser are expected to accept the results. However, Mr. Trump ap- peared to be a sore loser before the election is over and by
some accounts may be consid- ered inciting – “I will keep you in suspense.” Shameful! To thy self be true.”
Ross Anderson said, “To be completely honest neither candidate said anything signif- icantly different from the last two debates. I concur with First Lady Michelle Obama, ‘we must go out to the polls in record numbers this year and vote.’
“We MUST send a strong message to our local candi- dates who truly support the community in which they LIVE from the School Board to City Council, and the State At- torney Office that every candi- date we elect hold true to their promise that ALL LIVES & COMMUNITIES MATTER.”
