Urban League Of Hillsborough County To Hold Introduction Reception
The Urban League cele- brates its affiliation with the National League.
The Urban League of Hills- borough County will hold its Introduction Reception on Thursday, October 24th, be- ginning at 4 p.m. The reception will take place at the Tampa International Airport, Airsides E and F.
The reception is free and open to the public. Some of the invited guests include local dignitaries and community leaders.

The Mission of the Urban
League of Hillsborough County is to bring about and assist with the attainment of eco- nomic equity for the African American and minority com- munities of Hillsborough County through collaborative means and programs.
Nicholas Glover, Board of Directors Chairperson said, “There is no better way to help our community achieve eco- nomic parity than through or- ganizations like the local affiliate of the Urban League. Like-minded business and community leaders extending
their hand and knowledge to help others. It is so empower- ing.”
A National Mission
The National Urban League is a historic Civil Rights organ- ization dedicated to economic empowerment, equality, and social justice.
Founded in 1910 and head- quartered in New York City, the Urban League collaborates at the national and local levels with community leaders, poli- cymakers and corporate part- ners across to elevate standards of living for African Americans and other histori- cally underserved groups.
Hillsborough County Sheriff To Host Meet And Greet Event

On Wednesday, October 23rd, members of the com- munity are invited to join Hillsborough County Sher- iff Chad Chronister. The Meet & Greet will be held at the Falkenburg Road Jail As- semby Room, 520 N. Falken- burg Road, Tampa, 33619, beginning at 6 p.m.
The purpose of the Meet & Greet is to expose those in- terested in starting a career in law enforcement to oppor- tunities available. During the event, citizens will have an opportunity to learn about law enforcement, detention, and civilian career opportu- nities at the Sheriff’s Office.
In addition to positions as law enforcement deputies, there are positions for deten- tion deputies, and non-law enforcement positions. Sheriff Chronister also encourages veterans to apply for positions they may qual- ity to fill.

family members who may qualify for employment may also receive preference in hiring.
Other full and part-time positions are available as well. Some openings include: Training Specialist, Emer- gency Caller Taker Trainee, Equipment Mechanic, Help Desk Specialist, Public Rela- tions Coordinator (Bilin- gual), Multi Trader Worker Trainee, and others.

Students Earn National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists Post
More than 80 Hillsborough County high school students have been named National Merit Scholarship Semifinal- ists. The students represent home schooled, private, char- ter, and public schools.
They are among 16,000 students competing for the 2020 National Merit Scholar- ship Program. They are com- peting on a national level for approximately 7,600 scholar- ships.
The winners will be an- nounced in February 2020.
King High School had the greatest representation with 16 semifinalists, followed by Berkeley Preparatory School with 10, and Jesuit Catholic School and Plant High School both having 9 representatives.
