Stray Bullet Kills Mother Of Five Children

Police are investigating a shooting that left a man in sta- ble condition. The shooting took place Friday afternoon.
According to police, offi- cers responded to 2238 MLK Street, South, at approxi- mately 1:50 p.m. When they arrived, they discovered that Leronte Jay Smith, 29, was suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The investigation is continuing.

A St. Petersburg mother died after being shot on Sun- day. She was sitting on her porch when she was struck by a stray bullet.
According to the St. Pe- tersburg Police Department, Ms. Aesha Kendrick, 38, was sitting on her porch at 2000 45th Street South, in the Twin Books neighborhood. Other people, including sev- eral children were inside the home.

A 61-year-old Pinellas County school bus driver was arrested last week. He was charged with sex crimes in- volving a 16-year-old girl.
Ernest Williams was charged with 1 count of at- tempted sexual battery, 1 count sexual battery, 2 counts of lewd and lascivious mo- lestation, and 1 count of lewd and lascivious conduct.
According to police, the incidents took place between June 2015 and May 2016 at various homes in Pinellas County. The incidents came to light on October 26, 2018, after the female victim told a family member of the inap- propriate sexual activity.
The victim told detectives that Williams knows her family and was in a position of custodial care. He allegedly forced her to have sexual ac- tivity with him. She also said he touched her inappropri- ately on several occasions. The inappropriate behavior began when she was 13- years-old, she told police.
Detectives used various investigative methods to cor- roborate the victim’s allega- tions. They also identified a second potential victim who alleged that Williams had inappropriate sexual activity

with her in a different juris- diction. That investigation is ongoing.
Williams was arrested last Friday evening. Williams was a driver for the Pinellas County School District at the time of his ar- rest.
Detectives said there is no evidence that he may have had inappropriate contact with students related to his job. However, they said it is possible there are more vic- tims in this case.

During the investigation, detectives identified Jamel Walker, 29, as the suspect in the shooting. Walker was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder. He was also charged with shooting at the vehicle, police said.

The Pinellas County Sher- iff’s Office arrested a 34-year- old teacher Friday and charged her with grand theft. The offense took place on Oc- tober 14th.
According to police, a woman went into the Ulta Beauty Store, 7676 113th Street, North, in Seminole. She took several beauty, facial, and hair products valued at $537 with- out paying for them. She was captured on video surveil- lance.
A copy of the video was re- leased to the public via social media and a School Resource Officer from Pinellas County recognized the woman. She was identified as Ms. Kelly Rose Greene. When con- fronted by police, she admit- ted to the crime, police said.
For Battery On Airline

An off-duty police officer was taken into custody Satur- day at the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport. He was charged with trespassing, one count of battery, and one count of domestic violence.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 51-year-old Derrick Gilbert, after he al- legedly refused to leave the airport, committed battery on an Allegiant Airline employee, and committed battery on his adult son.
Police said at about 6;30 p.m., Friday, the airline called after an intoxicated man had been removed from the flight that was leaving for Greens- boro, North Carolina.
When deputies arrived, they made contact with the employees who were standing on the ramp with Gilbert, who is a Sarasota Police Offi- cer, and his son, 18-year-old Tai Gilbert.

Police said he was yelling profanities at airline employ- ees and refused to move into the terminal, away from the aircraft.
Deputies told him if he re- fused to leave he would be ar- rested. Witnesses also told police that Gilbert had al- legedly pushed an airline em- ployee while leaving the aircraft. He is alleged to have pushed his son and grabbed him violently around the neck when he tried to convince Gilbert to leave, police said.
