On February 28th, UNCF will host its 14th Annual Black History Month Luncheon. The event will take place at the Tampa Marriott Westshore, 1001 N. Westshore Blvd. Regis- tration will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the luncheon be- gins at 12 noon.
This year, the Keynote Speaker for the luncheon is retired Astronaut Winston E. Scott. Scott is a retired U. S. Navy He logged a total of 24 days, 14 hours and 34 minutes in space, including three spacewalks totaling 19 hours and 26 minutes.
A native of Miami, Scott attended G. W. Carver Mid- dle School and graduated from Coral Gables High School. He continued his education at Florida State University and Naval Post- graduate School.
He then served a 4-year tour of duty with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Thirty Three (HSL- 33) at the Naval Air Station (NAS) North Island, Cali- fornia, flying the SH-2F Light Airborne Multi-Pur- pose System (LAMPS) heli- copter.

lected to attend the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, California, where he earned his Master of Science degree in aero- nautical engineering with avionics. In June 1986, Scott was designated an Aerospace Engineering Duty Officer.
Scott retired from NASA and the U. S. Navy at the end of July 1999. He is currently the Senior Vice President for External Rela- tions at Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech), Professor of Aeronautics in the College of Aeronautics, and Professor of Music in the College of Psychology and Liberal Arts.
He most recently served as the Dean of the College of Aeronautics at Florida Tech.
Mrs. Doretha Edge- comb, former Hillsbor- ough County School Board member and retired educa- tor, was chosen as the Champion of Education for the luncheon.
A Tampa native, Mrs. Edgecomb attended the public schools of Hillsbor- ough County. She gradu- ated from Middleton High School and continued her education at Talledga Col- lege. She retired after serv-
