A Harmon Burial
A 27-year-old Lake City man died early Saturday morning in a traffic accident. The accident took place shortly after mid- night on Paul Buchman High- way and Hunter Road.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Chalmes Allen Pridgen, II, was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer south- bound on Paul Buchman High- way, south of Hunter Road. Ms. Reyna E. Lazaro Mar- tinez, 45, of Plant City, was traveling northbound in a 2006 Ford Explorer. For unknown reason, Pridgen’s vehicle en- tered the northbound lane and collided head-on with Ms. Lazaro Martinez’s vehicle.
Pridgen suffered fatal in- juries and died at the scene of the crash. Ms. Lazaro Mar- tinez was seriously injured in the accident. She was trans- ported to Lakeland Regional Hospital, where she was admit- ted.
The investigation into the accident is continuing.
A Black Detroit police of- ficer is outraged that he was accosted by one of his fellow officers, a white man, who he says handcuffed and man- handled him because he had a wad of cash.
Officer Chris Williams is troubled that a young offi- cer confronted him and faced off and allegedly used exces- sive force against the 15-year veteran. Now the Detroit po- lice have launched an investi- gation into the claims, local station WJBK-TV reports.
“I said what the f are you doing,” Williams said. “I was confused. He’s like, ‘You’re not supposed to have this much money on you.'”
Williams said the white policeman confronted him on June 6 at the Detroit Police Department Training Center where he was receiving train- ing along with 100 other plainclothes cops.
Williams said he was in the bathroom and was put- ting the cash in his pocket when the cop encountered him just before he was head- ing out to leave.
“He was yelling,” Williams said. “I look back and he’s running, and I’m like we must have forgotten to sign out. I am walking back and he grabbed my wrist, with his hand around me.
“He yelled, ‘Come on’ and I said what are you doing. I didn’t know what was going on until he put me in cuffs.”
Williams said other cops stood by and watched.
