Latest Homicide Victim Included In $18,000 ATF Reward

Last year, the Tampa Police Department and the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Ex- plosives Agency joined forces to combat gun violence in Tampa. The two agencies re- visited some of the crimes and as a result offered a $15,000 reward for information lead- ing to the arrest and convic- tion of suspects involved in the murders.
Recently, the two agencies announced that the name of Mrs. Maria J. Rivera-Con- treras has been included among those names.
Mrs. Rivera-Contreras, 57, was shot on June 27th as she sat in a vehicle while at the corner of Columbus Drive and Jefferson Street. The shooting took place around 9:45 p.m. She died at a local hospital.

shooting that there was an on- going dispute involving two groups of juveniles who live in the area. At the time Mrs. Rivera-Contreras was in- jured, a teenager was riding past on a bicycle. Police be- lieve that the teenager was the intended victim.
Police are continuing to seek leads in four previous cases included in the reward remain open. They are asking anyone with any information in the cases to contact law enforce- ment or Crime Stoppers.
Those cases from last year are: Lyfe Coleman, Jamylin Turner, Edward Harris, IV, and Mrs. Sharon Darns Watkins.
The information in those cases are as follows:
Tampa Police responded to the home of 18-year-old Lyfe Lazarus Coleman on the night of January 5th, in refer- ence to a shooting. Coleman died of the injuries sustained.
EDWARD HARRIS, IV 1/29/2001 to 5/31/2015
His death was the first homi- cide of the year Tampa Police would investigate.
On March 14th, police in- vestigated the shooting death of Jamylin Turner. The 16- year-old was playing basket- ball at Taylor Park when he was fatally wounded.
Investigators responded to the Woodlawn Terrace Park on May 31st in reference to a shooting. Fourteen-year-old Edward Harris, IV, had been fatally wounded. He was the second 14-year-old killed

this year.
Mrs. Sharon Darns Watkins was in her bedroom when gunshots rang out on June 27th. Mrs. Watkins was struck by gunfire and died at the scene. A wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Watkins was 58-years-old.

In the July 1, 2016 edi- tion of the Sentinel, ap- peared an article about Ronald Pressley, Jr., being returned to prison. Pressley was convicted of the murder of Albert Perry 24 years ago.
The photograph identi- fied as Albert Perry was incorrect. We apologize to the Perry family for the error.
Additionally, the article stated that Ronald Press- ley, Jr., was charged with being a felon in posses-

That information was
incorrect. Pressley was re- turned to prison for vio- lating the conditions of his early release.
He was originally charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. However, he was not charged with any addi- tional crimes during his release from prison.
The Sentinel apologizes to the Pressley family for the error.
