Michelle Obama's Memoir Tops Amazon Best-Seller List Days Ahead Of Release
Michelle Obama's
book "Becoming" shot to No. 1 on Amazon on Friday, and it's likely to stay there for a while.
The book officially comes out on Tuesday, but it is al- ready proving to be one of the buzziest titles of the year for the publishing business.
In a year defined by
Micheal Wolff's "Fire and Fury" and Bob Wood- ward's "Fear," Obama's memoir is a different kind of political book -- there's some criticism of Presi- dent Trump, yes, but it is largely about Obama's own life and experiences.
Early headlines have highlighted both the anti- Trump comments and the Obamas' challenges with infertility. For the first time, Obama shared that both Sasha and Malia were conceived through in vitro fertilization, or IVF.
The book roll-out began on Thursday night with a Washington Post story about those revelations.
ABC followed up on Fri- day morning by airing a preview of Robin Roberts' interview with Obama. On Friday evening
The Cover of Michelle Obama’s new book.
ABC shared clips from the audiobook edition of "Be- coming," so listeners could hear Obama speak about Trump in her own voice.
Roberts' full interview with Obama aired as a one- hour special on ABC Sunday night.
Roberts also has Obama's first live inter- view for the book. It took place in Chicago Tuesday morning on "Good Morning America."
That same day, Gayle King will sit down with
Obama, also in Chicago, for an interview that will air Wednesday on "CBS This Morning."
And Jenna Bush Hager will interview Obama for NBC's "Today" show. That, too, will be taped on Tuesday in Chicago, and air on Wednesday.
Network morning shows are usually hyper-competi- tive about guests. Often- times shows won't accept going second or third for an interview, and they'll just skip the guest instead. But Obama is the rare guest who can sweep ABC, NBC and CBS in the same week.
The hook for Bush Hager's interview is that she lived in the White House before Obama, as one of George W. Bush's daughters.
Other stories about "Be- coming" are hitting the magazine shelves. Obama is on the cover of ELLE magazine's December issue. And Oprah Winfrey in- terviewed Obama in front of a live audience for a fea- ture in O, The Oprah Maga- zine. Both ELLE and O are Hearst titles.
Michelle Obama Reveals She And Husband Barack Obama Went To Marriage Counseling: ‘I Stopped Feeling Guilty’
Former First Lady Michelle Obama revealed she and husband Barack Obama seek help for their relationship when they feel it’s needed.
The Becoming author, 54, sat down with Good Morn- ing America’s Robin Roberts for a special inter- view that aired on Sunday, November 11, prior to em- barking on her book tour. Michelle spoke candidly about her marriage to the former President, 57, and revealed the reason she wanted to share the inti- mate information with readers.
MICHELLE OBAMA
“Marriage counseling, for us, was one of those ways we learned to talk out our differences,” the Chicago native explained to Roberts, 57. “What I
learned about myself was, my happiness was up to me, and I started working out more, I started asking for help, not just from him but from other people. I stopped feeling guilty.”
Michelle continued: “I know too many young cou- ples who struggle and think somehow there’s something wrong with them. I want them to know that Michelle and Barack Obama — who have a phe- nomenal marriage and who love each other — we work on our marriage and we get help with our marriage when we need it.”
