As we go through life, we never know who is watching us and taking notice. In fact, many do things that are not required and no one seems to thank them for their good Samaritan acts.
However, Ms. Debra Houston decided to share an observation she has made for several years with others. She has observed a man walking down the street and picking up trash off the side of the road.
SHELDON SMITH
She doesn’t know the man or much about him. But, she felt that what he does without asking for help or recognition is
important. She was so im- pressed with the gentleman she learned is Sheldon Smith, that she visited the Sentinel to share her story.
“Every morning while I’m taking my walk, for the past seven years, I have seen him walking down 40th Street clean- ing up, and he does it with a smile. I just want him to know that he’s appreciated and we thank him for keeping our com- munity clean.
“We forget about people who are trying to make life bet- ter for others. He’s out there every day,” Ms. Houston said.
Ms. Houston is not sure how much territory Smith cov- ers. But she knows he walks from North 40th Street to Ne- braska Avenue, picking up lit- ter. She has seen him in various areas of East Tampa picking up litter.
“I just want to give him a shout out. I think it is impor- tant to recognize people who are making life better,” she said.
