The UNCF Tampa Bay Area 4th Annual Walk For Ed- ucation will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Al Lopez Park, 4840 N. Himes Ave., Tampa. Onsite registration be- ginsat7a.m.andthewalkbe- gins at 8 a. m.
According to Ms. Anita Henri, Area Development Di- rector for Central and North- ern Florida, funds generated from the walk will go to “scholarships for students from the Tampa Bay Area, and the scholarships are not lim- ited to the HBCUs in Florida. The scholarships follow the students. There are other HBCUs that the students can attend,” she said. There are 3 UNCF institutions in Florida – Bethune-Cookman University, Edward Waters College and Florida Memorial University.
“We are reaching out to local community groups and individuals to participate in the walk and for that reason
we don’t have a registration fee – registration is free,” she said.
The walk is sponsored by Suncoast Credit Union, Mo- saic Company and Wells Fargo.
The UNCF Tampa Bay Area 4th Annual Walk for Ed- ucation provides corporate sponsors, community organi- zations, and friends/family with an excellent opportunity to change the lives of deserv- ing college students by raising much needed scholarship dol- lars.
UNCF plays a critical role in enabling more than 60,000 students each year to obtain college degrees and in provid-
ing operational support to the 37-member Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The 2016 walk goal is $30,000.00. “When you regis- ter for the Walk, you help to reduce financial barriers to college,” she said.
The first 400 registered participants will be eligible for a 2016 commemorative T- shirt.
Ms. Henri said among the activities in the park will be refreshments by Coca-Cola, tickets to Yankees Spring training games, scholarship booth on how to apply for scholarships and information on several scholarships; cheer- leaders, and awards for cate- gory winners.
A zumba exercise will pre- cede the walk.
