BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Rev. Dr. Marcia Turner is a Tampa native. She grew up in Central Park and has committed her experiences in book form.
On Saturday, February 23rd, Dr. Turner will re- lease her book entitled “Raw Real Repentance.” The book revisits her childhood experiences and pro- vides an honest viewpoint of the area, the era, and life.
Dr. Turner said, for an outsider, “Growing up in Central Park may have been one of the worse places to live, but I think for the many families that called it and the other housing projects home, we all had a different feeling.”
She attended the public schools of Hillsborough County and graduated from Tampa Bay Technical High School. She continued her education at Hills- borough Community College, the University of South Florida and Blessed Hope Bible College Institute.
Today, she looks back and said she decided to write the book to tell the story from an insider’s point of view. It focuses on the adventures of street life and the things that took place in the neighborhood.
Dr. Turner is presenting the book in the format of a festival. There will be vendors on hand, a Bounce House for the children, food and music.
The festival will give those in attendance an op- portunity to reunite with former neighbors and rem-
this is her story. “I want you to know my reasons for the change in my life. God saved me.
“My book talks about life as I saw it and the parts that I played. I give God the honor for the changes that I have made in my life. I made some mistakes, lost my footing, but God kept me.”
In addition to being a first-time author, Dr. Turner is the mother of two and the grandmother of 6. She is a member of Greater New Salem P. B. Church.
The festival will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. It will take place at over flow parking lot, Greater New Salem P. B. Church, 1605 N. Nebraska Avenue, 33602.
The book is also available on Amazon.
