Nurse Creates Non-Profit To Provide Youths With Entrepreneurial Spirit
By MONIQUE STAMPS Sentinel Staff Writer
Chameika Johnson is on a mis- sion to help her community. The Hillsborough High School graduate’s biggest motivation is to help kids in her East Tampa neighborhood.
Being a nurse takes up time, but Johnson felt the need to create a non-profit, Mimi’s Kids Carwash, Inc., to help children with career de- velopment and job skills training.
As the children move through the program, they are trained on profes- sionalism, time management, com- munication skills, and core values.
Introducing kids to a program that will introduce them to a work envi- ronment can lay a foundation of re- sponsibility and personal growth.
Johnson believes that ”it takes a village to raise a child” and invites the community to participate in Mimi’s Kids Carwash, Inc. by partnering with the organization to train chil- dren to be productive and inspired to- ward success.
The kick-off was held last Saturday, July 31, 2021, at United Skates. The program officially starts on August 7, 2021. To register a child, please visit https://www.mimiskidscarwash.org.
The program will initially be on Sat- urday and Sunday. Johnson hopes to add an after-school segment in the near future.
Johnson says that the support of the community is crucial to the suc- cess of her plans for the carwash pro- gram. To help, call (813) 822-9384.
The most important items needed
are bottled water or juice, toiletries, coupons, clothes, shoes and sneakers, and children’s toys for all ages.
