Awards Ceremony And Mother’s Day Celebration Planned

On Saturday, May 13th, members of the community will gather at Blake High School for the 11th Annual Ac- ademic Achievement Cere- mony & Mother’s Day Celebration. The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The celebration marks the 11th year that Men of Vi- sion, Inc., has recognized students for their academic achievement and mothers of the community.
The theme for the Awards Ceremony is “Leaders & Game Changers.” Men of Vision will recognize more than 100 young men for their academic achievements, community service, and leadership skills. The young men attend Hillsborough County Public and Charter Schools.

“We have 20 young men graduating from high school this year. But, we are recog- nizing those continuing their education for their personal accomplishments.
“Men of Vision provides these young men an opportu- nity to work together in a group fellowship dedicated to community service and to

encourage the practice of re- sponsibilities along with helping others and providing an overall vision for the fu- ture,” Anderson said.
It is designed to expose young men to new ideas and opportunities they can share with others. It builds leader- ship, character, and a com- mitment to the community by giving back.
This year Rod Carter, Anchor for Channel 8 Week- end News, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

The keynote address for this year’s ceremony will be delivered by Hillsborough County Judge Daryl Man- ning.
Judge Manning was appointed to the Hillsbor- ough County Court in Sep- tember 2015 by Governor

Rick Scott. He replaced Judge Christopher Nash, who was appointed to the Hillsborough County Circuit Court.
Prior to being appointed in his current position, Judge Manning served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U. S. Army. He has also served as both Judge Advo- cate for the Army and Assis- tant Attorney General in the Tampa Attorney General’s Office since 1999.
Judge Manning earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Car- olina. He attended St. John’s University, School of Law, where he earned his law de- gree.
Judge Manning earned his Master of Laws Degree from the Army JAG School.
Howard W. Blake Class Of 1968
The Howard W. Blake High School Class of 1968 will hold its meeting on Saturday, May 13, 2017, 11 a. m. – 1 p. m. at the West Tampa Branch Library, 2312 W. Union St. The class is beginning to prepare for its “50th” reunion.
