Family Hopes Archbishop Tutu Will Be Discharged From Hospital This Week
Nadler: Impeachment Would Be A Guilty Verdict In 'Three Minutes Flat'
The Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation said on Friday that Archbishop Desmond Tutu was contin- uing to receive treatment in a Cape Town hospital.
In a statement, Niclas Kjellstrom-Matseke, the foundation's chairperson,
said the Tutu family hoped that the archbishop would be discharged early this week.
Kjellstrom-Matseke
said the family was grateful for all the love and prayers sent since Tutu was admit- ted for a “stubborn infec- tion.”
Ocasio-Cortez On Trump Food Stamp Cuts: 'If This Happened Then, We Might’ve Just Starved'
ARCHBISHOP DESMOND TUTU
WASHINGTON, DC -With sources telling CNN a vote in the Judiciary Committee to impeach President Donald Trump is expected as soon as this week, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler said Sunday that he sees the Ukraine evidence as part of "a pattern" of conduct by the President.
But, in an interview Sunday with CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union," Nadler would not commit to including the evidence of obstruction of justice outlined in Robert Mueller's special counsel re- port as part of the articles of impeachment.
Nadler said he was confi- dent in Democrats' "solid" case for impeachment, expressing optimism about the matter as the party moves closer to

drafting articles. He thinks his party's case "if presented to a jury would be a guilty verdict in about three minutes flat."
"There is considerable direct evidence," Nadler said, adding that "it ill behooves a President or his partisans to

Recalling her family’s past need for food stamps, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said Thursday that the Trump administration’s decision to move forward with cuts to the Supplemental Nu- trition Assistance Program (SNAP), will cause families to starve.
“My family relied on food stamps (EBT) when my dad died at 48. I was a student. If this happened then, we might’ve just starved,” she tweeted Thursday. “Now many people will.”
She then called out the GOP for coddling the wealthy, while people go hungry.
“It’s shameful how the GOP works overtime to create freebies for the rich while dis-

solving lifelines of those who need it most,” she tweeted.
The Trump administra- tion’s restrictive plan, which
makes it harder for states to gain waivers from a require- ment that beneficiaries work or participate in a vocational training program, will end SNAP benefits for about 700,000 people, Bloomberg News reports.
A U. S. Department of Agriculture spokeswoman claims that the new rule only applies to “able-bodied” peo- ple, and that recipients under 18 or over 50, pregnant or dis- abled, wouldn’t be affected.
As ESSENCE previously re- ported, if more of Trump’s proposed cuts are successful, nearly one million children could lose their automatic eli- gibility for free school lunches under the new food assistance rules.
Biden Claims That He Doesn't Need Barack Obama's Endorsement To Win
Former Vice President Joe Biden claims that he doesn’t need former Presi- dent Barack Obama’s en- dorsement to win the 2020 Democratic presidential nom- ination, in large part because Black people support him al- ready, Politico.com reports.
Biden, currently in rural Iowa on his “No Malarkey” tour, also doubled down on his claim that he told Obama not to endorse him back in Octo- ber, stating that even if the field were down to three, he doesn’t need the presidential seal of approval “because everyone knows I’m close with him.”
Biden, who has managed to stay somewhat removed from the media frenzy surrounding the impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump, despite his son Hunter Biden’s dealings with Ukraine being at the cen- ter of it, says that his relation-

ships with Black communities made him a pinch hitter for Obama.
“I was the one who was sent in,” he said. “And the reason was, because all the polling and data showed that I had those relationships with the base of the Democratic Party as well as African Americans. And so I did as many African Americans events as Barack did.”
Biden also said that the
Democratic field is swinging back to the center. Responding to whether or not he “uninten- tionally set the stage” for Pete Buttigieg — who was clearly propelled to a higher level of visibility when Democrats began having severe doubts about Biden’s viability, he said, “Set it up? He stole it! Set it up?”
Biden continued, saying that the moderate plan is the “Biden plan.”
