Back in 1984, Ms. Hattie Wil- son carried a friend to fill out an ap- plication for employment with the City of Tampa. Her friend told her to fill out an application as well. On Oc- tober 1, 1984, she was hired and started with the City of Tampa Park- ing Division.
When she was hired, Ms. Wil- son was a single mother of 5. She had 3 pre-teens and 2 toddlers. Those children are now 48, 46, 45, 37, and 35 years old. Additionally, she has 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Through the years as a Customer Service Clerk I, Ms. Wilson has seen many changes in the commu- nity and her dedication played an important role in the many achieve- ments made by the Parking Division. Many improvement initiatives have been implemented to meet growth and changing needs.
During Ms. Wilson’s tenure, she served under 5 mayors: Bob Martinez, Sandra W. Freed- man, Dick Greco, Pam Iorio
and Bob Buckhorn. She most re- cently served the division under Di- rector Ocea Latimore; Parking Manager, Charles Dummett and Operations Supervisor, Kelly Stephens.
Her faith in Christ has led her to be a member of “Building Relation- ships Yielding Christian Growth (BRYCG) Church. She is currently serving under Pastor Jake and Vanda Jacob. She has received several licenses in ministry: Ordain of Ministry, Evangelist, Minister, Elder and Pastor. Ms. Wilson says she is happy that God truly blessed her to meet so many young men and women of all ages. However, at this time in her life, she feels it’s time to turn the page and see what else God has in store for her. In addition to working more in her church, she also plans to get more involved in the community.
Recently, her family and co- workers joined her to celebrate her retirement. She retired June 30th. (Photos by Frederick Harris)
