Bucs Working On Jameis
Tampa Bay Storm Lose To L. A. Kiss; Face Philly Soul
Winston’s Deep Ball
The Tampa Bay Bucca- neers built their offense on the running game and mid- range passes last year, which worked fairly well.
One thing missing from that repertoire: the deep ball. Winston completed just six of 25 passes traveling at least 30 yards through the air. A few more hits could have made the difference between Lovie Smith’s firing and his staying on — so perhaps some of you aren’t too hurt he missed those passes.
Still, it’d be nice if Win- ston and his receivers could fix the deep ball this offsea- son. Dirk Koetter has mentioned before that the deep ball is something they’re working on, which is good — not least because Koetter consistently makes the deep ball a big part of his offense. But also because that deep ball is what the Bucs’ receivers do best, at least when they’re playing at their best. Vincent Jack- son and Mike Evans are big-bodied, long-striding re- ceivers who can run past most cornerbacks in the league in a long sprint — and then outjump them for the ball.
That didn’t happen much last year. Evans dropped a few too many balls, he and Winston sometimes weren’t on the same page, but more often than not,
MIKE EVANS Winston just missed that
deep ball. Usually because it was underthrown, a cardinal sin because it forces a re- ceiver to stop and gives de- fensive backs who were already beaten the chance to get back in it. If your receiver is having issues with his hands, making his catches more difficult than they need to be is going to lead to dis- aster more often than not.
Part of the issue must have been that Winston and Evans didn’t have much time to work together prior to the season. Winston came in as a rookie, having to get acclimated to the team and working with the first team only part of the time for most of the offseason. Then Evans suffered an injury that kept him out of the final two preseason games and the first regular season game, limiting their time to- gether even more.
The Tampa Bay Storm Arena Football Team is hav- ing a dismal season, after los- ing 48-21 to the L. A. Kiss, dropping their record to 1-12 this week.
However, if you talk to team president/part owner, and NFL Hall of Famer, Der- rick Brooks, he remains op- timistic the team will finish the season well and continue to be competitive.
“We’re not doing as well as we want, but we’ll keep plugging away and turn things around.
Patriots QB Tom Brady Has Deflategate Appeal Denied By 2nd U. S. Circuit Court
TOM BRADY
A federal appeals court has rejected Tom Brady's at- tempt to get a new hearing on his "Deflategate" suspension.
Brady was asking for the full 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to hear the case. In April, a three-judge panel said that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was within his powers when he sus- pended the star quarterback four games for his role in a scheme to doctor the footballs used in a Jan. 18, 2015, playoff game.
The decision Wednesday affirms the wide-ranging pow- ers given to the commissioner by the NFL's collective bar- gaining agreement and was a setback for organized labor groups arguing for due process in employee disci- pline.
Brady's remaining hope is to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Patriots open the sea- son Sept. 11 at Arizona. If Brady is suspended, backup quarterback Jimmy Garop- polo would take his place against the Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills.
Brady, who signed a two- year contract extension during the offseason that dropped his 2016 salary from $9 million to $1 million to save himself al- most $2 million in lost salary during the suspension, would then make his regular-season debut in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.
DERRICK BROOKS
“I think Arena Football is going in a great direction. We have a new commissioner, and I’m doing my part to keep the team together and
bring in new personnel.” Brooks said they do a great job recruiting especially in Florida, and although they are currently last in the American Conference, he ex- pects the team to stay com- petitive and his players to
continue to be professionals. The Storm have three games remaining this season, with two of them coming to
Amalie Arena.
They will finish their sea-
son against the Philadelphia Soul, Portland Steel, and Jacksonville Sharks.
Wimbledon Champ Serena Williams Teams With Kevin Hart For Workout
Serena Williams doesn't mind mixing in a few jokes when she works out, so Nike’s idea of pairing the 22-time Grand Slam champion with comedian Kevin Hart for “The Hart Serena” workout was filled with laughter. And a fair bit of sweat, especially for Hart.
Nike brought the two to- gether with trainer Ben Monk for a 15-minute high- intensity, strength-based workout that requires no equipment, just the ability to use your bodyweight to get stronger, Monk says.
The warmup includes 20 seconds of bodyweight squats, heel kicks and A-skips before transitioning into 30 seconds of lateral hip openers and spring to backpedal moves.

Then the “total body strength” portion kicks into gear with up to 40 seconds each of partner hand rows, partner push-up high fives, lateral lunges, side plank knee drives, forward lunges, lateral shuffle, partner hand rows, partner push-up high fives, later bounds and side plank knee drives. (The full workout can be downloaded on the Nike+Training Club app.)
Draymond Green: 'Can't Put Myself In Certain Situations'
Golden State Warriors for- ward Draymond Green on Tuesday said he expects legal issues stemming from his ar- rest for an alleged assault to be "resolved really quickly."
Green was arrested Sun- day after a fight at a restau- rant in East Lansing, Michigan. He was released on $200 bond, and his arraign- ment is scheduled for July 20. If convicted, he would face a maximum of 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.
"I think when things hap- pen, I think you meet them head-on," Green told re- porters Tuesday in Aspen, Colorado. "My legal team is handling it. It will be resolved really quickly. As a public fig- ure, I just can't put myself in certain situations. It's some- thing that I'll learn from and just move on."
Lt. Scott Wrig-
DRAYMOND GREEN
glesworth from the East Lansing Police Department told ESPN on Monday that he couldn't confirm whether the assault was a punch or a slap, but he said it was "not a shove" and there were no in- juries. He also said police were not called to the scene but were already there as part of their normal patrol.
Both the Warriors and USA Basketball are awaiting details. Green, 26, is set to join Team USA in August at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
