Group Preparing For Its ‘Unity Garden’
The Tampa Heritage Ini- tiative, (THI), a subsidiary of the Urban Progress Alliance, Inc., is making progress on their community garden proj- ect.
On Friday, July 24, 2020,
Andre Hill, Jr., Derrian Burns, and Patrick Slovenski began the design and construction for the planting beds.
Using materials donated from Lowe’s, these young kings began building the planting beds and digging out placeholders in preparation for our groundbreaking cere- mony, where we will then begin to plant seeds and seedlings of various fruits and vegetables.
THI Community Garden needs a water supply and ir- rigation system. They have requested the City of Tampa to donate an ingoing water line and tap. With the water supply and irrigation system in place, THI will begin the next phase to cultivate and plant seeds and seedlings.
THI will also recruit local youth and community mem- bers to help maintain the gar- den, provide training in horticulture and agriculture, which in turn will provide fresh fruits and vegetables to the community.
