   Workshop On Suicide Prevention Planned For October 13th
 - Suicide is the 10th lead- ing cause of death
- Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for our youth 10-24; 2nd for the age group 24-34
- Each year 44,193 die by suicide
- For every suicide, there are 25 attempts
The holidays are coming soon, and with the country in a mental health crisis, there are ways to learn techniques on how to safely intervene with those who may be con- templating suicide or experi- encing depression.
Says Vanessa John- son, “Blue Moon 211, Inc., is committed to convey train- ing to those who need skills to navigate others to live longer. We are offering a Safe Talk Training Workshop in the Tampa Bay area. We are determined to effectively im- plement Safe Talk training to leaders in the community, a program designed by Living Works, an internationally known Suicide Prevention Intervention Strategist Or- ganization.
Safe Talk is a half-day alertness training that pre- pares anyone 15 or older, re- gardless of prior experience or training, to become a sui- cide-alert helper.

words and actions, invite help to stay alive,” she fur- ther explained.
“Blue Moon 211, Inc., fo- cuses on developing the com- prehensive knowledge, attitudes, skills, behaviors within communities to meet the challenge of suicide pre- vention,” she said.
The standard training in- volves participation in a one- day, 3 hours training workshop, with a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 30 participants, which provided information on evidence- based suicide prevention strategies.

The facilitator, Vanessa Johnson is a native of Tampa, who graduated from Tampa Bay Vo-Tech High School. She earned an AA in Liberal Arts from Hillsbor- ough Community College; BA in Psychology and Sociol- ogy, from the University of Tampa, MS in Professional Counseling with an emphasis on Christian Counseling from Grand Canyon Univer- sity; and she is now pursuing a Doctorate in Philosophy with an emphasis on Per- formance Psychology, at Grand Canyon University.
Ms. Johnson is a Tai Chi Instructor and facilitates a Teen Support Group in Georgia called, “Controlling the Fire,” helping teens to cope with anger.
Blue Moon 211 was or- ganized in 2013 and Ms. Johnson extended another chapter in Macon, GA in 2014. Since starting Blue Moon 211, Inc., Ms. John- son started the International Youth Coalition Task Force in 2015. Ms. Johnson has advocated across the states and in other countries pro- viding suicide prevention to many communities.
Ms. Johnson is also an author. She published her first book, now on Amazon, September 2018, “The Chronicles of a Tin Woman.” The book helps women to recognize their value while embracing their beauty.

           Nominations Being Accepted For Hillsborough County Women’s Hall Of Fame
 The Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women is now accepting nominations for the 2019 Hillsborough County Women’s Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame was cre- ated in 2011 to honor and cel- ebrate the achievements of Hillsborough County women who have made significant contributions in areas such as business, education, phi- lanthropy, the military, and public service to improve the lives of residents of Hillsbor- ough County.
Since its inception, the Commission on the Status of Women has recognized and honored 30 notable women through induction into the
Women’s Hall of Fame. All Women’s Hall of Fame in- ductees are permanently rec- ognized with a plaque displayed at the Tampa Con- vention Center.
Nominations will be ac- cepted until 5 p.m., on No- vember 5, 2018. The Hillsborough County Women’s Hall of Fame Luncheon and Induction Ceremony will take place April 26, 2019, at the Double- Tree Hotel Westshore, in Tampa.
