In Honor Of Rev. Dixon
On every corner, there’s a church and there’s a Pastor that preaches to them every week from the Bible, but not many of them visit the pri- sons or jails.
But, I’d like to describe to you a man, Rev. Willie Dixon, whom at the tender age of 83, pastors the largest congregation in the State of Florida, that being the De- partment of Corrections.
Rev. Dixon recognizes that we’ve not always been right and that we’ve made wrong choices. But, he re- minds us that regardless, God still loves us and shares in our failures, as well as our success, and will forgive us and show us Grace.
I, like many others, pre- sent and former inmates, are
REV. WILLIE DIXON
thankful to a God-sent man with a God-sent message.. Rev. Willie Dixon, whom we be- lieve is our “Unsung Hero.”

Ms. Willie Mae Jones Celebrates Her 95th Birthday
MS. WILLIE MAE JONES
The family and friends of Ms. Willie Mae Jones will celebrate her 95th birthday on Saturday, February 14 at Jack- son’s Bistro on Harbour Island.
The native Tampan is the proud mother of 7 children: Essie Lee Dooley, Betty Johnson, Marjorie Judge, Shirley Blount, Joyce Judge, Olivia Judge, and Anthony E. Jones. She is also a dutiful grandmother of 12 and enjoys the love of one niece and her children.
During her lifetime, Ms. Jones has witnessed immense change in Tampa particularly as it relates to African Americans. While she applauds the political and economic progress that has allowed her children, grandchil- dren, and great grandchildren to partake in middle class life, Ms. Jones still reminisces about her earlier days during the 1940s and 1950s visiting the Central and Lincoln the- aters, the Little Savoy, or the Claxton Show at the Florida State Fairgrounds, all here in Tampa.
We wish her many more years of wonderful memories.
