   Annual Fundraiser Draws Local Entertainers
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
What began as an event to help a struggling elemen- tary school has quickly be- come an annual event. When Marvin Knight and a group of volunteers learned that St. Peter Claver Catholic School needed financial as- sistance, they held an event for jazz lovers throughout the Tampa Bay Area.
The event was designed to donate all of the proceeds to the school. It was well re- ceived and well attended. So, the second year, it was back by popular demand. Those two events were held at the Ritz and so called, “Jazzin At The Ritz.”
Last year, it was relocated to the Italian Club and re- named in honor of that loca- tion. On Sunday, April 14th, the group will host “Jazzin At The Italian Club,” cor- ner of E. 7th Avenue and N. 17th Street.

“We are very excited about this year’s fundraising event. We will have phenom- enal entertainers lined up for this event. We are looking forward to everyone coming

Tampa businessman Marvin Knight said, those attending this event will not only have a good time them- selves, but they will be help- ing children at the same time.
Some of the entertainers lined up so far are City Groove, Hott Mess, and Ashley Smith & The Ran-

For those who want to ar- rive early, a reception is planned from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and conclude at 8 p.m.
Knight further said, “We are trying to raise $25,000 and all proceeds will benefit the school. This school has been in our community for about 126 years. By raising money for it, we are helping those kids who are there now as well as those who will come in the future,” he said.
Knight further said, “Last year, we had more than 200 people come out. We want to break that
record this year. And, we are also training the next gener- ation by having some of our young people shadow us so that they will know how to give back to the community.”
He further said the event is open to people from all walks of life who love jazz, mingling in a safe environ- ment, and just enjoying themselves.
